D/C adapter for laptop?
I plan to buy a used laptop for prom burning and aldl linking. All the used laptops come without adapters. Can I just pull 12v off the cig lighter and use like an LM317 and trimpot to get the same voltage as the laptop runs on and wire it inplace of the battery? Is this a bad idea? Thanks

You should be able to find a "regulated" power supply for any laptop for like $25 online. I just got mine and it cost $25 (free shipping and no tax ). I also just bought a 10amp 12volt tripp power supply online which came to $40 after shipping. So for $65 I have a unit that works at home and in the car. BTW, I have an IBM Thinkpad 755cx which requires a funky power supply (20v and 10v). Do some research on your laptop and you should find some really good prices online.

Could I ask where you got your adapters?
I think you were that one that mentioned www.bobjohnson.com in the DIY prom if so I'd like to say thanks that's the cheapest I've found.
