i'm guessing that your choke does open, right? a while back a mechanic shorted out my choke wire and blew the fuse. That made the light come on and kept the choke from opening. Don't know if this helps you though.

Also there's a relay that sometimes goes bad which controls the choke, located in the convenience tray where the ALDL connector is mounted. I think it's green in color.
