volt guage jumps around, lights dim
I posted this on the general board, but I figured maybe someone that reads this board may have some experience with this since.. well this is the proper board
I just replaced the battery, and put a new ignition module in the car. The wiring between the battery and alternator was replaced and it looks good. The car wouldn't start yesterday because the module was bad, but it ran fine earlier.
Tonight when I started the car I noticed that the guage only read a bit over 8 volts, and then it went up. As I revved the engine the volts dropped and the lights dimmed, then the needle started going up and down with the lights dimming each time it dipped. I just had the alternator checked today when I replaced the battery(I took it into Kragen and put it on the machine, it tested fine 14v output).
To further complicate things, or perhaps help find a fix.. when I got into the car I pulled the faceplate down for the cd changer and stuck a cd in and closed it. The cd player started making the sound it makes when it pulls cds in and pushes them out. I opened it and popped the cd out, then put it back in. After this it stopped working completely.
Now the alternator and battery are new, as is the wiring between them. The car ran perfect earlier today, but I was afraid to drive it with this happening. What should I look at?

I replaced the alternator and it was fixed, but I still get some low voltage readings every now and then, especially right when I start the car. I think I may have to just upgrade alternators.

I have found that I have continuity between my positive and and negative battery cables, but I cannont find where the short is. I think that is causing my voltage problems. Once I get my jack back, I will check out the starter (just replaced).
