OK, I give up...unless someone helps

hello

I posted below about my fuel gauge.

but ill go over it again.

it is pegged full.

I shorted the pink and black wires(inside pass. compartment) together, and the gauge went empty.

now, the gauge does not work becuz I had to take all the wires out of there harnesses cuz the fuel pump needed to be re-wired(went to carb)

so I just tried every possible combination of connecting the 3 wires in the pass. compartment with the 3 wires coming from the sending unit(15 combinations totat right?) and the only thing the gauge does is either stay pegged full, or go all the way empty.

Im sure the sending unit is fine, and im sure the gauge is fine, cuz it worked until I needed to re-wire the fuel pump.

so, any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it matters, I dont use the in-tank pump anymore, im running a Holley external.

what is the ground terminal?

is that another wire?

There are 3 wires inside the car, and 3 wires that come off the sender, they used to plug together in a harness...

is the harness the ground terminal?

Pleez!!! I am a novice with electrical!

reconnect the wire to sending unit[pink on mine]. reconnect the ground wire unless it was cut to wire the other pump in which case connect it to a good ground point[black or black & white]body or frame should do.

does anyone know what the ground wire colors ae?

in the pass compartment the wires are Pink(that effects the fuel gauge when connected to any other wire) tan/white, and black, coming from the sending unit, the colors are Purple, grey, and black.

Like I said, I connected all these wires in every possibly way, which I believe was 15 combinations, and the only thing that happens is the gauge goes from full to empty.
