What size battery?
what group size is the battery in a 3rd gen? i want to get a Optima, and there is 2 different sized red tops, a 75/35/25 and a 800U. thanks

The group size is 75, although you can put just about any battery you want as long as it can fit. Also 75 series batteries are sidepost, as like all GMs. Unless you change your cables, then you need a side post battery.

Get the Optima. Mine was a tad too large for the tray, which I solved by using an alternative holddown method.
BTW the Optima is top and side mount, so no new cables are necessary.

Transmission: SMOOOOOOTH T-56/Auto. . .
Axle/Gears: 3.42 and 2.73
I've heard a rough number before that you want 2 times as many CCA(cold cranking amps) as you have cubic inches engine.
