Broke my pocket programmer...
Well I was in a rush and I hooked up a 9volt dc car adaptor to my programmer but the tip was on backwards
. It melted the Q1 transistor off the board and onto the plastic. I don't know why but the transistor was on the backside along with the voltage regulator. Anyways, I noticed the transistor was a standard switching so I used a 2N3904 since I didn't have any 2N4401's. I could also use a 2N2222 but whatever. Anyways, has anybody broken their programmer so that it only reads? How did you fix it or did you just send it out to get fixed?

Shortly after I bought mine I blew the breaker for the downstairs rooms in my house using the welder in the garage. Ooops, I toasted the pocker programmer. I guess the power spike did it. Boy I was pissed. I had to replace the 2N2222 transisitor on the back of the PCB and it works fine again...Whew!

Anybody else do what I did and fix it themselves? I don't exactly have $50 on me to send it in for repairs. I might as well buy the newer PP2 since that comes with windows software and the updates!
I tried the transistor but it didn't work. I even flipped it around to see if that was the problem, still a no go. Is it safe to use a multimeter to check the voltage regulator? I think that might also be broke.
If anybody has any ideas on what to replace, please let me know.

I'd just go in there and replace the regulator, transistors, etc associated with the power rail. Easy enough. In any case, you ought to be able to put a meter to it without a problem. Check for darkened/cracked diodes. If you inverted the voltage, there might have been some pretty nasty biasing attempts...
Does it actually use a switching power supply in there. or is it just straight regulated voltage? If it's a switcher (should be a little transformer), then there should be paired transistors. Maybe even switching controlling the power transistors. Maybe I'll crack mine open to see what it's made of...
