Need help tuning!

Ok to start it's a 1995 chevy c1500 2wd with 5.7L and 4l60E with full exhaust headers back running a bored TBI with a GMPP intake and 80lb 454 injectors fp at 16psi. I'm running EBL flash piggy backed with the stock computer to run the trans. This is my first time tuning so It's a little over whelming. I've been doing as much reading as possible I'm still searching for some kinda write up with all of the different abbreviations in the WUD and tunerpro and what they mean and how they function if that even exists?

When I started out with my base tune and did about 5 or so VE learns the engine did improve greatly while driving. But now the more VE Learns I do the worse it runs it starts to run very lean. When I look at the VE table graphs in tunerpro it's not smooth at all there is huge dips up and down very dramatic changes. What could be causeing this? Should I have my EGR disabled as well as lean cruise?? both are still enabled currently? While driving and seeing my BLM flucuate lean my o2 sensor changes dramatically at times from 900 down to 50 at times is this normal because of the lean issue? And my engine appears to be running very cold I went from a stock thermostat to a 185. I didn't think it would make a huge difference but while driving the dash reads only about 150F and the CTS in the WUD is reading around 90C.

I drove the truck to work for the first time this morning about 45 mins down the highway. It's got me nervous now that it's running so lean. If anybody could offer any advice to help me fix this so my drive home goes a little smoother please do. I can share my .bin and datalog with anyone if they think it would help.

What's up Display Help document:

Start->All Programs->EBL Flash->What's up Display Help

There is also a Calibration and Information help document.

The VE Learn uses feedback from the O2 sensor. If the engine is starting to run bad back up a few tunes to where it ran OK.

For VE Learns the EGR needs to be disabled along with the CCP. It may be that the CCP canister was saturated and forced the BLM down. Which the VE Learn will then take from the VE Table.

Once the CCP canister was clean the VE is now too low. Pull the purge line from the TBI unit and plug both the line and the port. Then once VE Learns are done reconnect it.

Disabling lean cruise will provide for more coverage in the learns. Just set the MPH parameter high to disable.

90*C is 194*F, so OK there.

Re: Need help tuning!

In the email you recently replied to you mentioned silicon posioning of the 02 sensor. I used blue hylomar for my intake gaskets and bolts which should be fine but last week I needed to pull an intake bolt to move something and I reinstalled it with red rtv. The intake bolts go right into the intake passages could this have screwed my 02 sensor?

Re: Need help tuning!

Hard to say, was it listed as sensor safe? I don't believe that any intake manifold bolts go into a runner.

Silicone on an O2 sensor will be a white fluffy like substance.

Re: Need help tuning!

I'm gonna pull it out when I get home and see what it looks like if I have to I'll run out and buy a new sensor. I'm running a bosch but from what I've been reading online alot of people have bad luck with them. Maybe I should switch to a delphi or denso?

Sounds like the idle area of your map could use some work. Might not be flat enough, maybe too rich...... how quickly does it die? Sometimes adding some timing in the idle area can help sustain and smooth the idle. Not sure on the EBL if there's a cold idle advance option.....

Big cam? You might need to bump up the idle speed and play with the prop. gains, etc. Or enable open loop idle.

Tuning Question

Ah shoot meant to post this in the EBL thread.

EBL user for a few years now, many trials and tribulations later finally getting into tuning this combo for power.

OL tune with assistance of a favorite TGO member :-). Overall the car is very well behaved.

Goal: I am targetting 20 lb boost. But I hit my current rev limit of 5000. At that time I am at 17 lb boost.

Then I see DC is 100%. Oops. 60 lb injectors, 40 lb pressure at idle with vac on. BPC is 69.

Goal: I want to CL tune this OL tune in the non-boost range to bring the AFR up during around town driving. In CL under boost she's safely rich so I'm good with that for now.

So what order to reach my goals and how? I'm thinking:

* increase fuel pressure to see DC come down? I read required VE table mods or would CL tuning tweak this?
* increase the rev limit to 5500?
* Do some CL driving?

Sorry if this is cryptic, I'm at the edge of understanding what I'm talking about...

Thanks for comments.
