Would this EPROM Programmer Board work?
Im curious to see if this EPROM burner circuitboard would work to burn a SST 27SF512 Chip. What do you think?

It will not work support for I2C Bus EEPROM

Re: Would this EPROM Programmer Board work?
First, it wont program a conventional prom chip, its made to program PIC microcontrollers which just use a serial i2c connection. You need a more conventional eprom programmer that programs the chip in a parallel mode.
You should avoid similar "looking" programmers anyhow, that one looks like it uses a serial port connection. Try to only buy peripherals that use USB interface. USB to serial converters are real hit-or-miss and a PITA. Its very hard to find laptops with serial ports, and even getting harder to get a desktop PC with them. Parallel ports are even worse.
Last year during a computer upgrade I bought a real high-end motherboard that includes a parallel port. I was hoping to be able to use my Xtronics Pocket Programmer II a little longer before having to drop the cash for a usb programmer. I was really disgusted later to find out that even though the motherboard has a parallel port, windows7 will not allow software to have direct hardware access to the port.
Do yourself a favor and only buy USB interface stuff, parallel and serial ports are a dead end.

The moates is priced right if you are wanting to do uv erasable as well you will need more applied power. The other choice is The pocket programmer 3 and I'm sure williams have something.

Re: Would this EPROM Programmer Board work?
My next programmer will be a moates. But my second choice would be a pocket programmer 3 usb(chevy86's link above). Aparently with the Moates programmer you can access the programmer right through tunerpro, certainly a nice feature.
There are a lot of cheap chinese programmers on ebay, i have read about a lot of issues with them on other forums (avoid those).

Re: Would this EPROM Programmer Board work?
when i was getting into it, i looked around at some of the other chip burners.
but with some of the problems i was finding with offshore knockoffs, i decided to go with Moates. even though i probably could have saved some money, i have no regrets.
Punisher454, have you thought about dual booting on your new computer?

You'll be happier with the Moates BURN2, than any other programmer.
As I said in the PM, I've used two different Willems programmers and use my BURN2 exclusively now. I have my Willems GQ-3X sitting on my test bench, but if I need to read or program an (automotive) EPROM, I go to my tuning bag and grab my BURN2.
For anyone else reading this, the last programmer pictured is what is called a "Dual Power", that requires a printer (LPT) port, which no laptops that I'm aware of for the last 8 years or so have had, and are pretty scarce on desktop computers as well.
