Re: obd1 chip burning
Start here.
There are many options, but the BURN2 is good.
Moates.net
Depends... I wouldn't say it's easy. Read through some of the stuff in that "Start here." link from above to get an idea of what your getting into.
what is a good chip burner?
where can i get one?
is it hard to do?

Re: obd1 chip burning
chip tuning is not for everyone.
for hardware, https://www.moates.net/ will have everything you need.
the Burn2 is a nice chip burner.
of course you need to know what the motor is doing, so you need to be able to data log. the ALDU1 and CABL1 will work great.
for software, i and many other people here use TunerPro.
the AutoProm combines a chip burner, real time emulator and data logging in 1 unit and it comes with a license for TunerPro.
the AutoProm is what i use because again, it does everything i need in 1 unit.
once you have the hardware and software, burning a chip is easy, its tuning the chip that is hard.
before you can burn that first tuned chip, you have to understand what the data log is telling you.
now is the time for a ton of reading and lots of using the "search" feature here.
the stickies above are a good place to start.
before its over, if you don't end up with bleeding eyes syndrome, you haven't read enough.
burning your own chips is not an easy road, but it is rewarding, and it can be somewhat addictive.
still interested in tuning your own chip? then start reading

Good point. When I said it could be difficult in my previous post I was referring to the tuning process. Like DENN_SHAH says, the actual burning of the chip is pretty easy.

Re: obd1 chip burning
Somewhat? Ha!
Going through some of the stickies here and the guide to prom burning can be a little overwhelming. It is very in depth, a huge history lesson and a great place to further your skills as you get into this more and more!
Today is very different than even 2 years ago because of software that does so much work for you. I would say get TunerPro RT, it has a free trial. Get the XDF (for reading/changing your bin (chip) ) get the ADX for reading your data (what your engine is doing) Find your bin file on the net and load them all into TunerPro and click a bunch of buttons.
Still interested? Get a cable and record some data.
Still interested? Get whatever you need from Moates to change the chip in your particular ECM/PCM to a newer EEProm that does not require UV light to erase. Nowadays you just click erase. Start by reading the prom that came in your car. Always save an origanal, make changes slowly, learn how to make changes to areas of recorded data that need work...
Then come back here and read all those links again and it will all start to come together.
Good luck!
