eprom burning beginner looking for advice

i recently change the engine in my 86 trans am from a 305ci to a 355ci.
now the 355ci is a rebuilt 88 350 tpi,and the 305 i took out was also tpi.im aware that i must change the esc modual and the knock sensor and the eprom.my question is do i need to use the same mem-cal from the 305 and just replace the chip or can i use another mem-cal such as 1 from an 88vette tpi that has been modifiyed so that i can remove just the chip from the mem-cal(via 28pin zif socket) and replace it with my own bin calibrations? (via my custom burnt 27c256) in other words are the "limp home"files on the mem-cals the same?

it runs on the 305 memcal and esc modual, with a 350ci knock sensor.but it wont fire at all when i change to the mem-cal from the 88vette(w/the stock eprom chip)a new esc modual(for an 88 350tpi)and the same knock sensor in both cases(which is new also for an 88 350 tpi).

Re: eprom burning beginner looking for advice

The 'Vette MEMCAL has VATs, while your car doesn't. So the injectors won't fire.

I wouldn't worry about the limp mode stuff that much. Most likely the engine isn't stock anyway. Can use any V8 MEMCAL and burn the proper chip for it. Most go with an '89 code base ($6E) as it is better then the older $32 base code.

Note that you may need to make some changes, such as disabling VATs, and flipping some fan flags.

Re: eprom burning beginner looking for advice

thanks rob ill give that a try.another quick question for u concerning the vss.can i disable that as well or can i lower the value?the reason i ask is because the 86 was a automatic and the 88 was also an automatic and i have installed the borgwarner 5spd.i know there is a flag for the manual trans. but dose that directly effect the speed sensor since they are differant between the auto and the manual.thanx again

Re: eprom burning beginner looking for advice

If the speedometer is off need to change the gear(s) for the VSS in the trans.
