Winaldl Data Logging Issues....can't Log the Data with Windows 7
Hello there,
Just bought a cable from aldlcable.com and wanted to try and log some data for my 1988 IROC-Z.
I installed the drivers, hooked up the cable and can see the data on the screen.
I start/stop the logs, do a search for .txt files and can't find anything anywhere.
I heard you need to use compatability mode with Windows 7 to where Winaldl is set to think its XP.
I did that too and still nothing.
Am I doing something wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated!

From winALDL site....
Requirements
A PC with a serial rs232 port running a Win32 enviroment. ( Windows 95/ 98/ ME or Windows NT / 2000 / XP )
I ended up buying XP(ebay) and had a friend load it on my new laptop a couple three years back. It came with Vista. There may be a better option for you.

There is a function in 7 that allows you to run a program as if you were running XP. It's been a few years since I played with the function, but basically you would go to install the software through this function, and then select "run in xp mode" and it will translate it into something runnable on 7. God knows what to google but the info is out there somewhere. I think I got my instructions when I went to install CATS on my computer for my LT1, maybe you can get the info of install from them.

May need to run WinALDL as administrator. Right click on WinALDL and check the line "Run as Administrator." Can do it on the desktop shortcut (if it exists), or on the program itself within Windows Explorer.

Is there another free logging program that is compatable with Vista if this doesn't work?
I can't imagine everyone is still using XP......thanks for the help!

Click run on windows 7 type uac, disable uac slide it to the bottom off, now reinstall and make sure to disable any aftermarket firewall or antivirus programs you may have when you reinstall, winaldl is not digitally signed and will be block by the majority of av/firewall suites. Hope it works out. Also if your running 64bit version of win7, look for the win aldl folder in the x86program files folder thats where winaldl stores its logs in its installation directory- I just create a shortcut on my desktop to that directory for easy access.

Never mind. Here is what my laptop is.
Windows 7, OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Type x64-based PC
Processor Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU P6200 @ 2.13GHz, 2128 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)
and its a Dell.
Anyways here is what I did. I right clicked the software and I installed it as an "Administrator". Once installed, WinALDL still wouldnt save a log file. So instead of doubloe clicking the WinALDL to open it up, I right clicked the icon and opened it up as "Administrator" and then itll ask you if you want to let the program to make changes to the system. Just select yes and itll allow you to log the file in its folder location.
