holley 950 pro MPFI tuning

i was told to come here for tuning info so here i am. i have a 1968 327 all rebuilt with forged scat components. no biggy. the pistons with cometic .074 gaskets are 8.5 compression. i am going to run the stealth ram. with twin 57mm turbos. as i was uploading the 3 floppys to my lap top i did see that there is a base map set for 14PSI. how many of you guys have had luck using the base maps as a starting point and how hard is it to really tune this thing? nobody around here really wants to mess with it. the just want to sell me dyno time thats it. just want to see what i am really getting myself into.

Where are you located? I have experience with tuning a FI setup with the commander 950. Once you get past the learning curve of this system, tuning is very easy. First, do you have a wide band O2 sensor? If not, I wouldn't do any tuning until you buy one. Become very familiar with the 950 manual and visit chevytalk.org for more help/answers. Some more questions: how much boost? injector size? ignition type?

Re: holley 950 pro MPFI tuning

i do have an innovate stand alone wide band with data logging capabilities. i plan to start at 6psi and work my way up to a max of 14psi. i do have the 2 bar map, 60lbs injectors, and an MSD pro billet 8366 dis, with 6AL box, and coil. im running procomp 210 cc heads and a custom grind cam from a company in baton rouge. dont recall the name at the moment. 218/224 duration .488/.510 lift with 1.6 rockers and 114 LSA i am running twin 57mm turbos and am going to be intercooled. just wondering if the 14psi base map is a good place to start?

The WBSC14SC.950 file might be ok to start with, but the fuel map values will probably be way off. I am also using the lc-1 wbo2 and 60lb injectors. You have slightly larger cam & heads, but otherwise our combos are pretty similar. I have tuned up to 12psi and you are welcome to start with my map if you want. I saved a copy here. If nothing else, seeing what I have done so far might help you learn what to do.

If you do start with my file, make sure to input your wot tps position, then set the max tps for closed loop value a couple numbers above that. Then whatever value the throttle is at idle, set the max tps for idle 3-4 numbers above that. Also, verify that the add timing vs coolant temp values in the modifiers screen aren't all -32. If they are put them all back to 0. Finally, you'll want to sync your timing with the values in the 950 using a timing light and set the propagation delay so that timing matches the spark map when you rev the engine. All of this is described in the manual.

I guess I don't understand. Open the link that I posted and there is a download link in the middle of the screen. Click on that and it downloads a .zip folder with the .950 file inside. Extract that file and put it wherever the rest of your .950 files are. Then open with the 950 software.

ok thanks. so how well does the 950 work for you? i was told that it was crap but i bought my HSR used on ebay and a buddy of mine had the 950 pro and harness and gave it to me so its pointless to buy something else. did you buy the adapter so the 950 sees the wide band and knock sensor? i really didnt plan on it.

Re: holley 950 pro MPFI tuning

Haha, it is far from 'crap'. I love it because it is so simple to change parameters on the fly and the datalogger feature makes tuning very fast. I bought the adapter for the knock sensor (probably a must for boosted applications), and manually wired the lc-1 to the 950 wiring harness. Also, my cooling fan is turned on/off with the 950.

LC-1 w/ 950

Knock sensor w/ 950
