94 lt1 pcm questions
First off, I'm needing a way to read real time data on the cheap, to diagnose and repair a few problems.
Can anyone suggest the best way to go here? I see moates has a new cable, and I'm guessing that along with tunerpro would be it????
After I get the bugs worked out, I'd like to be able to tune the car once I start modding it. I understand the 94 PCM has to be reflashed. Is tunerpro and a laptop capable of doing this? Or do I have to go a different direction to flash the PCM?

Re: 94 lt1 pcm questions
been awhile since I looked at TP for LT1 support. I've used the following for my brothers car:
Tunercat with $EE definition and flash utility
Freescan for scanning, it's limited, but enough for what we needed.
anyone else with more info, please pipe up, I'd like to know what is the latest stuff around for the LT1.
if you plan to program the ecm, make sure you have a solid battery or use an external bench power supply and programming harness.

mark and i made the EE ADXs that he has listed on the TP downloads page... we've had it confirmed that they work with an older build of TPV5.

Re: 94 lt1 pcm questions
Thanks for the info guys.....
One more question, do either of you know of a build it yourself cable that will allow you to flash the pcm?
It seems some of the premade ones can, and some can't. I don't know what part of it would be the part that enables you to flash?

Re: 94 lt1 pcm questions
Tunercat for reading/writing tunes, TTS Datamaster for real-time information of the engine/transmission sensors and pcm. Tunercat will run about $100, Datamaster has a free trial of like 20 sessions. Need ALDL cable from akmcables and usb-to-serial converter from radio shack if your computer doesn't have a serial port.

Re: 94 lt1 pcm questions
yes, you can make your own cable also. I found the plans on the internet somewhere....lemme look around and see if i can remember how I wired it. I used a couple of donor connector pigtails and hard wired it to a 12v source, and use the data wires to communicate.

Re: 94 lt1 pcm questions
i modified the MAX232 schematic from techedge a bit so that i didn't require an external power source, works nicely IMO... only got 3 packet errors 1 one hour of logging...
it uses 1 USB cable to supply +5V and another to send/recieve data going to from a serial-USB convertor (Parallax 28031 IIRC). i built it for ~$28 even including the rape pricing from radioshack...
i never intended to use it on anything other than later P4 PCMs (7727), so i never integrated in a 10K resistor for a-b port that a 165 requires or any of the 160 baud stuff either.
