Help with setting up Tunerpro RT
I've searched the forum for answers, and read through Tunerpro help but have had no luck.
I'd like to eventually data log with Tunerpro but first I need to get it to simply display information. Winaldl is working. Can someone provide a step by step on how to set up Tunerpro so I can view and log data. I'm not finding it on my own.

What hardware are you using? If you're using the Moates AutoProm, have you read this?

I think you'll need the corresponding .ads file to datalog. You can find it here:
http://www.tunerpro.net/downloadBinDefs.htm
Find your ECM and download the ALDL definition file. You might as well download the BIN definition file while you're at it.

Re: Help with setting up Tunerpro RT
At the time, it is the stock ECU. No fancy aftermarket stuff yet. Just trying to diagnose a problem.
I have downloaded the appropriate .ads and .xdf files.
In Tools>ALDL/Data Logging>Setup, I've loaded the appropriate definition file.
Hmm, I think I may have just discovered my problem. I had the wrong com port selected. I'll try again tomorrow and get back to you.
Edit: I just tried it and I'm getting data now that I have the correct com port selected.
Now, how do I log? I have to select a log file to begin. There are none to select. If I use notepad to create a file with the .adl extension it returns an error saying invalid log format.
Edit2: Ok. I got it! That thing they say about taking a break and then going back to something, it works.

So what did you do different this time to solve the problem? Might help others (like me) if you wrote down and posted up with how you got to the results.
Thanks, Dave

Re: Help with setting up Tunerpro RT
To find the com port the aldl cable is using in win XP, ensure that the cable is plugged into the computer and that the drivers are installed. Go to the start menu, right click My Computer, select Properties, select the Hardware tab, click on the Device Manager, expand the Ports(COM & LPT) item and there you should see which com port is in use. In my case it is COM4. This applies to winaldl, too.
To select the port in TunerPro RT
At Tools>Preferences, select the ALDL/Emulation tab and select the appropriate com port.
To create a log file.
Go to Tools>ALDL/Data Logging>Setup, click on Select Log File For Rec/Play. When the window comes up to select a log file, type the name you want to give the log file in the File name: text box and press enter. A window will pop up explaining that the file does not exist and do you want to create it. Select yes to create the file.
After that, ensure that the proper data stream definition is loaded (.ads) and you're ready to log.
