ECM# and prom # for 350 TPI w/auto trans?
Sorry if this is posted incorrectly. Have rough idle trouble. went to adjust tps but recieved no voltage reading across a and b pin. SES light comes on intermittantly, but i am unable to retrieve codes from SES light with a and b pin jumped with key turned on. I'm thinking i might possibly have a bad ECM/ECU or prom. Sticker on ECM/ECU has serv # 1227165. chip inside stamped ABYA 5400. car was bought used 1988 5.7 TPI auto trans. Are these the correct ECM and prom chip for this vehicle? If not, does anyone know the correct numbers or any place to look up the correct ecm # and prom #'s? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

How does your car run in general? If it is running ok then you probably dont have a bad ecm. Your SES light is bad more than likely. You may try a scanner instead, and i am talking a real scanner not one that just flashes your SES light. Check places like Autozone. Most places can run a scan for free these days. Pretty much any auto shop will do it. I had a problem with my 91 TPI that was pretty much rough idle, dying in traffic, etc. Turned out to be a bad fuel injector. Oh, and it will not give you any codes either, but yeah, when you insert a PAPERCLIP across A and B terminals then your SES light should flash a code 12 three times. That is normal operating vehicle. Not to insult you , but are you sure you are using pins a and b? They are the two side by side on the top right of the diagnostic port. Let me know how it goes. Later

I'd check all your grounds first. One of the A and B pins is ground. So if the ECM grounds are not good, it won't be able to ground the diagnostic pin to put the ECM into diagnostic mode. Bad grounds can also spell trouble in terms of engine problems.

My 88GTA is doing exact same thing, I jump pins a&b, SES stays on, No Codes echoed back. Except GTA will not start or run anymore. I was thinking loose connection in wires/connector, but I do not know where a&b connect directly, [ECM-Plug-Body, etc...] When you figure this out please let me know.
Thanks
