Something weird with my stock PROM?
Can anyone tell me if there is something wrong with my stock PROM?
My PROM code is AKFZ so after some searching on the internett I have found out that it is a stock PROM for a 1988 305 TPI with 2.73 gears and 700r4 AUTO.
Last winter I did a swap from LG4 engine to TPI. So I bought the ECM and PROM with the wiring harness that came with...
I have bought some equipment from Moates.net.
I have the BURN2 chip burner and the G1 adapter.
I also bought a HDR1 reader so I can read my stock memcal and same it to a BIN file.
I tried to read my memcal and it was succesfull. I saved the BIN file to my computer and tried to open it in TunerPRO RT.
I loaded the 32 definition file and tried to looks at some of the MAF tables and the other functions. I they all look very strange and when comparing to other BIN's that I have downloaded that should have the same stock values none of them matches....
for example: on my stock memcal the Manual transmission flag is ON. Wich is wrong since I have a AUTO. And the same with a lot of the spark advance and so on...Just some huge numbers. What could be wrong here??..I need some help in doing some tuning to my car..Please help me out...I think this might also cause some of my problems with the idle and the TCC lock-up and driving the car afterall...![Smilie](https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Any ideas??

Re: Something weird with my stock PROM?
I juse the FLASH and BURN program to read the stock prom, just like they explained at Moates.net...
And I am saving the BIN file and try to open it on TunerPRO RT.
I have also burned a new chip with some BIN files that I found on the internett that should be for a 88 305 TPI engine with 2.73 gears but with no luck. I changed the TCC speeds and tried to change some values but the car does not feel any difference at all. What could cause this?..I know that the chip is burned since when I try to read the chip after I have burned it the reading shows the BIN file that I have modified.
Could it be something with my ECM?..

Re: Something weird with my stock PROM?
Okay..Now I have used FLASH & Burn again to READ my stock prom and save it to a BIN file. I was not sure wich chip to use on the program but I tried to use the Verify chip w/buffer and found out that 2732A matched.
So I used the read chip button to make the file and then saved it as a BIN file. It is 16KB's big...I just made a .ZIP file from it so I can attach them to this post....
Thanks again for helping me out.

Re: Something weird with my stock PROM?
the read is definitely bad, its just a bunch of jumbled garbage. In the burn2 software...are you setting your chip and buffer addresses correctly? You read through all the documentation on moate's website correct?

Re: Something weird with my stock PROM?
Now sometimes GM used a '256 chip in those ECMs. In this case need to read it as a 27C256 and then save only the top half of the buffer.

Re: Something weird with my stock PROM?
Ok..My ECM is from a 1988 TPI with 2.73 gears, But my stock engine was originally a LG4 engine from 1987. I converted it to TPI the last winter. Was a BIG project but it went okay overall..
I will try to use the 27C128 chip and save a new BIN file.
Mayby that will work out...

Re: Something weird with my stock PROM?
I am pretty sure that everything is connected correct and that the chip is the right direction and so on. Have been reading a couple of times on Moates site since I am a beginner when it comes to burning and reading chips.
I will try later today to READ the chip using the 27C128 chip in the FLASH & BURN software and save a new BIN file that I can attach to you.
Then you could have a look on that one.
Another thing...Could the ECM itself be something wrong with?..I mean, that is the "READER" of the PROM on the car and if there is something wrong with the ECM then the PROM wouldn't work 100%..
Just something that I have had in my mind...Please correct me if I am wrong..

Re: Something weird with my stock PROM?
Now I have try to save a new bin file..This one I called 1988TPI
It is compressed in to a ZIP file like the other one..
Now I used the FLASH & BURN program and tried to read the chip with the 27C128 Chip and it was successfull.
Try this one:

Re: Something weird with my stock PROM?
Much better, that one looks good. I am running the 32B mask in tunerpro and everything looks good.

Re: Something weird with my stock PROM?
Ok...Actually when I look in to this BIN file myself it seems much better yeah. I guess the reason why I didn't get the information correct earlier was because of this CHIP choise I made on the FLASH & BURN program.
I have tried to burn a new chip with the same specs as the stock chip but I changed the TCC lock up speed to much higher, but with no luck.
Anyone who has an idea why I can't make any differences?...I also change a little bit on the MAF tables just to check out if it has any difference on the car but nothing is working. Though the car starts and drives fine but with no difference's.
Another thing I have been wondering. The check engine light does now show anymore after I burned a new chip. How come this have happened?
Thanks...
