Can you ID this ALDL cable?

Can you ID this ALDL cable?
Hi,
I bought this cable and a pocket programmer / UV eraser off a fella here a couple of years ago, and am trying to ID this cable. I used it with no problems on a 7747 project that I tuned last year, but I am up against a brick wall trying to do ANYTHING with a 16147060 truck I have right now. I have read & read about the ALDL deal, and maybe I missed it, but I just cannot get into the data stream. This cable only has two wires, and I am reading that i have to excite the B terminal with a 10K ohm resistor.. which must be unique to this ECM, because the 7747 worked fine with just the two wires plugged in.
This ALDL does not have a pin in the E slot, so I was trying the ground in the A and the red in the M.
I have tunerpro RT, and do have what is supposed to be the proper ADS file loaded in the program, but when I click connect on the tunerpro software, it will not communicate.
This computer is an old win98 unit, with a serial port, so it is not a USB/serial adapter issue.
Can anyone shed light on this uphill climb? I am glad this is not my first tuning project, cause I'd likely take up knitting

Re: Can you ID this ALDL cable?
The 10K resistor is used only in the '165 ECM AFAIK.
The '7060 uses 8192 baud data communication, where as the '7747 that you tuned previously was 160 baud.
Some two transistor cables (which is what that cable looks like it most likely is) can be flakey when it comes to 8192 baud communication.
Have you performed the cable detect test with in Tuner Pro RT?
Have you tried connecting again to the '7747 to verify cable functionality?

Great info!
I have not tried the cable test, I will give that a shot if I get a chance in the garage tomorrow.
I do not have access to the 7747 anymore... but that is a good idea.
THANKS, I appreciate the help very much!

Re: Can you ID this ALDL cable?
OK, I snuck out there and gave the cable test a try. Strange results.
With the setting on COM1 - the test generated an immediate denial, where it says cable not found at baud 8162.
Then for giggles I set it to COM2 and hit the test button... 2 or 3 seconds went by and it said "cable found and functioning".
I thought I had gotten a break, but then I selected COM3, just to see, and it immediately said "cable not found"... so I went back to COM2 and now it things for the same 2 - 3 seconds, but comes up with "cable not found"... tried multiple times, wiggling the connections, but I cannot get it to find the cable again... ugh.
I have no problem buying a new cable, but I am in Canada, so getting it quickly is the problem.. any other ideas?
thanks!

COM ports often behave as you describe above. When you switch from one to another, then try to go back, it will likely take a reboot to work again (espeically on Win98/98se

Thanks for the info!
I got the emulator up and running, but no dice with the ALDL cable I have, so I ordered a new one from the closest guy to me, which is a place called Wester's Garage... it was $230, so I hope it works!
I am REALLY hoping it will work with tunerpro RT and I won't have to shell out the $$$ for datamaster. I do have the .ads file for that exact ECM number... has anyone been able to use tunerpro with the 16147060?
thanks!

Re: Can you ID this ALDL cable?
Yeah, the Moates would be my first choice, but up in canada I don't have alot of options for getting stuff quick. Usually have to plan ahead to get stuff ordered so the freight bill is not too bad.
OK, another update, still no luck.
I got this cable, it has a usb cable on one end, and two ALDL connectors on the other. And it came with no paperwork... not that it is all that complex, but it does have a little switch that I am assuming switches between ALDL connectors.
So, I plug it in the computer and then go into tunerpro tools, preferences, test cable. Happened to be on com3, so I tried it and it sees the cable.
Plug into ALDL port and click CONNECT.... connection failed. Try a few other times, no luck.
So I download datamaster 85 and also their ALDL software tool which checks ALDL cables... I do the test and it passes 2 out of three, but not the high speed test. ( I am going from memory here, I can clarify exactly the error it comes up with)... not much I can do about that right now, so I try to communicate using datamaster... go thru the software which seems pretty straightforward, but don;t have any luck.
I tried changing the sync time deal, which is lists in the instructions to tryy, but no luck.
When I click on test connection, it says ALDL cable working, no PCM communication.
So I look at the ALDL connector itself, but the pins look fine.
I borrowed a snap on scanner, and I can read all the parameters, TPS, MAP, Spark Advance, ETC... just cannot get anywhere with the laptop connection... and I did try another laptop.
So, I am pretty defeated here... any thoughts?

Re: Can you ID this ALDL cable?
AM I way off in thinking that I should be able to connect with the ALDL while the AutoProm is emulating? Or do I have to do something different, like a connection thru the autoprom?
Right now, I have the laptop running the autoProm, emulating. The same laptop has the ALDL cable connected to the vehicle... am I missing something there?
Does the Snap-on scanner use the same terminal (M) to communicate?
thanks!

Moates is pretty quick to ship, I usually get my stuff from him within a week, I too, am in Canada.
When using TP RT, do you have the correct ads file in use? This is a simple step that is easy to miss.
I'm not familar with Datamaster, so I can't help you there.
