TunerPro and Moates Burn 1
Lets start from the top. My old laptop is going out, the screen is ver hard to see,its very slow and sounds ike its gona fly part when it powers up.
I got my hand on a newer laptop with XP. I downloaded a fresh TunerPro RT program and went to Moates.net and downloaded the drivers. I'm not sure what drive I downloaded because the only optin I seen was just "divice drivers".
When I start up TunerPro my Burn 1 is detected, when I go to read my chip so I can get my bin in the new laptop I get
"ERROR: PROM I/O returned failure."
I can plug the Burn 1 into the old laptop and it works fine.
Any ideas from anyone?

Re: TunerPro and Moates Burn 1
update, I can erase the chip, do a blank check, load file tobuffer then program chip. When I go to verify chip to buffer I get
"ERROR: Command Failed. Check connectivity, firmware versio, etc."
Its connected fine, I can use the same usb cable and connect ot the lot laptop with out ay problem, all fuctions work fine. I don't see it being the firmware unless the firmware for XP is not the same as 2000, but if that were the case I wouldn't be able to use the Burn 1 on my home computer.
Looks like it may time to contact Moates again.

Re: TunerPro and Moates Burn 1
another update.
Uninstalled TunerPro, uninstlled the driver, reinstalled both. I can plug up the Burn1 and the computer will tell me found new hardware then it will say installed and ready to use. unplug and plug back up and it may tell me the same thing.
For some reason I can now read, erase and program the chip but when I varify I get an error, hit verify again and it works.
And I thought the old laptop has issues, maybe if I put them together I can make one good one.
JB weld or duct tape?

Re: TunerPro and Moates Burn 1
Hi DSmith,
If it's working well with one of your computers but not on another, then it is likely something with that other computer. Could the USB section be going out or something? Do you have another USB cable or a powered hub you can try? How about a different USB port on the laptop?
That's a weird deal. If it ends up being the unit itself, I'll be glad to take care of it, just let me know.
Also, you might want to double-check the www.tunerpro.net to get the very latest revision of the softwares.
Check my other posting on the software settings with screenshots, that might help if you get the latency set to 1.
Hope this helps,
Craig

I don't feel its the Burn 1 unit itself or the firmware because it works fine on the old laptop(2000) as well as my home computer(xp). I was first thinking the devise driver but I uninstalled it and then reinstalled from your support site. TunerPro is a fresh download so thats out. The FLash & Burn software is fresh from your site. 2 USB ports with same result, only had 1 usb cable at work yesterday but it works great on the old laptop. I'll try another today.
Everything checks out great except for the laptop. A guy at work has the same laptop and still has all the reformat disks that goes with it, I'm thinking about starting over with an empty machine.
BTW, that afrTuner is great, I guess I had never looked at it before because I wanted to stay with one system (TunerPro) so I wouldn't confuse my brain more than it is. I did install the Mike Davis patch, still don't have the same readout in TunerPro as I do on the O-meter but I'll work on it some more once I get this computer stuff acting right.
Good to see you on here even if it is 4 in the morning. I'll be in touch soon, got a couple more things I want to purchase.

Re: TunerPro and Moates Burn 1
update,
I'm still having some issues with the Burn1 but I have moved on the the ALDL cable. Guess what? no connection. I went in and set up everything, closed it out and went back to make sure it stayed set and all was good, click connect to ecm and get nothing. Downloaded the ALDL test stuff and the first time I ran it the cable passed. Went back to connect to ecm and get "could not initialize port" like it wasn't hooked up. I went back and checked everything in the setup and nothing matches. Go back to the ALDL test and get " previous comport no longer available". Keep in mind I didn't change or move anything in any way.
OK, it has to be the USB ports, drives, or whatever. This laptop has 2 usb1.1 ports. I think I'll go get a usb 2.0 card and install it. maybe that will end this crap.
Later, Dewayne

Re: TunerPro and Moates Burn 1
The issue with dropping the ALDL connection, could be a poor ground at the ALDL connector. A friend of mine has a similar issue in his car, none of the ALDL cables we tried would connect. The only thing that would was his Tech1. I later discovered the very same problem on my ECM test bench, when I forgot to connect the ground to the cable.
I'm also leaning towards a problem with the FTDI drivers.

uninstalled and reinstalled more than once.
I'll check the ground on the ALDL connector. I have had problem in the past connecting and staying connected with the old laptop, maybe that will solve the problem there.
I even put in a new ECM after reading where someone was having connection problem and once they put in a new ECM they connected fine. I will make it work even if I end up with all new stuff.
for all your help.

Re: TunerPro and Moates Burn 1
One thing you might want to try is to disable any other USB devices that might be conflicting the Burn1 on the USB port.
I had just installed a bluetooth adapter and it filled every available comm port I had on my laptop and created a conflict with the Burn1.
If you have every messed with the Device Manager on Windows you will have very little trouble finding what I am talking about.
Another thing you might want to try, is to buy or borrow a powered USB hub, even a cheap one. Some of the USB connectors do not put out enough voltage to properly power USB devices sometimes.

I'll check for a conflict there also.
Lack of power at the comport could explain why I have problem eraseing my chips. There are times when I have to hit the erase button several time(even with the old computer and the Home computer)
Thanks.

Re: TunerPro and Moates Burn 1
Although this is Vista centric, the same method applies to XP as well:
http://www.moates.net/manuals/Driver...ationVista.pdf
Pay particular attention to the Latency setting in the driver control panel. Give that a shot.
It sounds like it's either a driver setting issue on the new computer, or something funky with the PC hardware. It's not likely to be a BURN1 issue or a TunerPro issue, based on how it's manifesting.
Also note that 27SF512 chips need to be erased before a write, otherwise Verify will fail.

I took the new laptop(which is no where near new) to the computer shop this morning to have them erase the hard drive and reformat just like a new machine so I can start fresh. I do erase the the chip and do a blank check everytime. I have noticed that those 27sf512's do not erase every time and even takes 3 or 4 hits to erase.
I should get it back Monday and will reinstall everything and verify the settings . I'm sure all will be good in a few days.
When the computer guy saw the TunerPro icon he was asking about it, I think he was amazed by it. I sent him to your site.
Thanks for the help,
Dewayne

Re: TunerPro and Moates Burn 1
This is true. To test the theory, try using a powered USB hub. If that works, you know the PC by itself isn't providing enough juice.

Re: TunerPro and Moates Burn 1
I was able to get my laptop back today, ended up with a new hard drive and a fresh copy of XP. Got it home and reloaded TunerPro, downloaded the device driver from moates, checked the settings and all looked good. Poped in my chip so I could read it and get a copy of my bin back on the computer and now I have even more BS than before.
XDF is 6E, opened my bin and nothing is right.
Checksum = FFFF
# of cylinders = FF
base timing 89.65°
ALL MAF Scalars = FF
Spark advance table = 89.65° all the way across the board
Power enrich vs rmp = 99.21 across the board
Thats just the few that I looked at.
It gets better, I decided to put a copy of my bin on the home computer just in case I needed it and I'll be darn if I didn't get the exact same thing as I did on the laptop.
I can understand how the laptop may not have the power needed in the usb ports to run my hardware but I don't understand why I 6 month old home computer that has worked fine every other time I plugged in the Burn1 all of a sudden went stupid also.
I don't get it, at all.

Call me, this is ridiculous. It should work the first time. You probably have something wrong in the settings. I can walk you through in 180 seconds.

The bin is APYP. I can open a fresh APYP bin and everything is fine, open MY APYP bin and get what I posted before. I don't see any way it could be the XDF. I feel like its will be an error "ID-10-T". Will know more after I talk with Mr. Moates.
I'll give you a call in a little while, not sure what time you will get up and don't want to wake you.

Re: TunerPro and Moates Burn 1
OK, my problem with the burn 1 was solved thanks to Craig Moates via a phone call. Thank you Craig!!
Now if I can just figure out why my wb-02 shows 1 reading on the o-meter and another in tuner pro.
It has to be something simple,
I inserted the Mike Davis wb hack thats included with the AFRTuner software. Correct me please if I'm looking in the wrong place but I'm watching the "target afr" for my Wb readout.
OK, when the Ometer shows lean, such as when I let off the throttle comming to a stop, TunerPro will show rich. When the Ometer shows rich, TunerPro will show lean. I havn't ran it enough to figuer out where a common point is at between the two yet.
I'll be off tomorrow and if the weather is nice I plan to get this problem solved and do some WOT tuning.
Thanks to everyone who responded to this thread, I hope that one day I can return the favor by explaining some of this to the next guy.
