ostrich 2.0 vs. apu1

i have a 95 chevy truck with the 7427 ecm that i plan on tuning myself. my question is what is the diference between the ostrich and the apu1. they are both emulators so why is the apu1 more expensive than the ostrich?

Re: ostrich 2.0 vs. apu1

The ostrich is only an emulator where the apu1 also has a chip burner built in and I believe it also has a datalogging feature built in as well so you don't need the aldu1 either.

Re: ostrich 2.0 vs. apu1

If you leave the Ostrich hooked up all the time, then no you dont need anything extra.

Ostrich is like having a tunable chip...
You still need additional hardware to monitor (ALDL) what is happening...

APU1 does both, + Chip Burning... Ostrich would need ALDL cable and can't burn chips....

Re: ostrich 2.0 vs. apu1

As stated the APU1 is basically an "All in one".

I prefer the seperate idea, and it has to do with failure. Face it these are electronics and they fail for what seems like no reason sosmetimes. So If one part developes a problem, say the programmer section on the APU1, the entire deal has to go back to be serviced/repaired, where as going the seperate route, (Ostrich, ALDU1, BURN2), if one section fails, then you still have the other two parts to continue doing what you need to do.

I know there would also be times where all I want to do is datalog without emulating and to use the entire APU1 seems overkill just to datalog.

I love the idea of the APU1, I've just had experiance with other "All in one" electronics (Home stereo/theatre) where owning an all in one, means that the entire piece has to go away and are not able to listen to the radio/surround sound when the DVD player needs servicing.

The APU1 has a few adantages over the seperates idea though.
The APU1 also has the ability to add a few A/D channels to the log chain, with an addition piece (the APADC), comes with a free licence for Tuner Pro RT and is a single cable input to the laptop. Buying an Ostrich 2.0 gets you a discount on the TP RT licence though.

Re: ostrich 2.0 vs. apu1

The "failure" route can go a step further...

The APU1 has the advantage of burning your final chip and putting that in the car with no Ostrich or APU1...
