aldl suddenly not working
havent touched the car in about a year, moved accross the country, just had it shipped out etc
aldl used to work, just tried connecting using .ads file firstthirdgen1227730 and 1227730 which is the edited version of it
when i test the cable it says valid cable not found, unplug the usb at the computer and plugs it back in, test again and it says usb connected and functioning, go to connect and it tries to connect for like 15 seconds, then says connection failed. test the cable again and it says cable not found.
setup is set to max232/2-trans etc for interface type
its on the right com port
and at 10hz
if i go into aldl setup and go into edit aldl definition and click 160 baud it connects instantly but isnt reading anything from the car.
what am i missing???
the only thing i messed with on the car was i spliced a dakota digital vss into the main power and ground wires on the small connector on the smaller black ecm connector, and i cant imagine that has anything to do with the problem im having, thought id mention it tho

Re: aldl suddenly not working
im so lost because its been a while since i've even had a cluster in the car and i just messed with a bunch of stuff.
my check engine light is on and it wont even flash me codes when i hotwire it now.
i removed wires B9 and 10 from the ecm which are direct from the vss and shouldnt be an issue to wire into the dakota box
i also disconnected the grey wire in B11 that goes back to the instrument cluster and is for vehicle speed input, im wondering if i should have just spliced into this wire because this wire also shows C1 underlined beside it.
the signal for the cruise is in C1 but has C2 underlined beside it, and the grounds for A12 and D1 in the vss circuit diagram also have C1 and C2 underlined beside it.
going to try and hook that wire back up to the ecm and see what happens but im so confused.

Re: aldl suddenly not working
if you can't pull codes, it won't connect thru the cable.
it sounds like you may have a problem with your chip or the ECM.
if you have it, try the stock chip & see what happens.

Re: aldl suddenly not working
im hoping the wire in B11 being disconnected is my issue, gotta wait till i can get a pin to reconnect the wire tho
this chip always worked fine in the past...hoping someone has a helm inc manual or could just explain to me what the underlined number beside the pin connection number means on a wiring diagram

Re: aldl suddenly not working
Man, I hope you get some answers 'cause I'm in the same boat. I've got a Mastach connector and believe I have tried it with every program made with no luck. They all show the cable is working but no pcm. As for the chip - it is some hacked up version of AUJP. Just got the vehicle-new motor and TPI - it runs like poop and I need to see whats goin on in there.

My aldl occasionally goes on the blink....
...and I've done some troubleshooting that involved all kinds of work. The last couple of times it was a matter of ensuring the connectors & leads into the 730 ECM are fully inserted; also, after you connect the ALDL to your laptop/autoprom/whatever, then ensure that the leads in the back of the car connector are fully pushed into the connector. Worked for me the last couple of times everything just quit working (without me have made any changes).
