Moates ECM 852 and XP?

I'm trying to run Moates ECM852 s/w on my Dell laptop that has XP installed. I'm not able to connect. After searching, I've found entries saying the s/w won't work with XP. Is there a work-around for this?

I have the max-232 interface installed inline and I can connect using my old laptop (old IBM thinkpad) with Win98. Unfortunately the Thinkpad only works in DOS mode, battery is dead, the screen hinge is broken and the onboard floppy drive died, so it's pretty much toast and not really worth fixing.

The only thing you can do is to boot the laptop to DOS. Either from a floppy or a CD.
