About to tune a MAF car, want to make sure basics are covered.
I have a 383 with superram 219 cam. It was previously tuned by Jamy Lippencott. I'm ready to start tuning myself and I know my tune is already pretty close but I want to do some tweaking.
My first question is how do I know I have the correct XDF file? I dont know if the .bin I have is a $6E, $32, or ARAP. Is it appropriate to change the XDF file while tuning to bring up the tables I want to change? It appears there may be a way to make my own XDF in TunerPro, but I havent tried it yet. I guess I dont have a full understanding of what the XDF does yet. It seems that it is a tool to allow TunerPro to decode the .bin you're trying to modify. I just want to make sure I'm using the correct XDF before I start tuning. I want to know that I have all of the appropriate tables, scalars, and flags at my finger tips before I start tuning.
I have read the stickys at the top 3 times and I'll keep going through them. Right now answers to my questions will help with relax my learning curve here. Thanks guys.

Re: About to tune a MAF car, want to make sure basics are covered.
the XDF has to match the system your using. IF your using the 6E MAF system that the 89's had, you need the 6E XDF. 86-88 had the 32B i believe it is. arap, aujl, and other codings like that are just BIN files that are read by the 6E XDF. XDF decodes the BIN file to allow you to read whats in that file basically
i'm not sure how you could tell what bin is loaded on your chip. You'd have to read it and save the bin file to the computer and go into tunerpro and open up different XDF files to look at the bin and see if it looks correct or not. Use the compare feature to compare your bin to the other known bins for stock 86-89 cars. Its gotta be either 32B or 6E XDF file tho

thanks so much for the info. I deleted the cold start injector and I'm 99.9% sure that Jamy used the 6E bin for the '89s. I did mess around with different XDF files and I was getting different tables available to me.

trying to find a close bin to start off with was too hard tried messing around with some of moates fileads found one thought was close but when the car started idled great but as soon as i stepped on it ran like crap, so i changed i back figured i better start with the data from prom its running on hypertech currently and is runnable around town but need to modify to get full potenial out of upgrades.

No change needed for a fuel pump. The regulator keeps the pressure where it needs to be.
