Re: EBL FLASH.... How do I start?

Ok i un check those light are out. What would be causing the idle to go up and down when cold? When driving in the ve learn it runs good even when i get to a complete stop. If i shut it off and let icool down it starts going up and down.I put a fuel gauge on my truck and the pressure before it goes in is only reading 10 pounds? Would this cause the idle surge? Other question is after doing a ve learing does it automaticlly change the ecu program or do u have to save and flash? Also seems to be runnning super rich when idleing smells like im buring a ton of fuel? Just want to say thanks in advance for every ones help. I choose bin 11 its for a 4 speed but mine is auto is there any way to change this or should i try and find a different bin and start over?

Re: EBL FLASH.... How do I start?

Ok i have been reading at dynamic web site on tuning. I thought i read it all. i dont know what i was thinking but i didnt scroll all the way down . So know i know some of my answers. During ve it saves the data saves in a new bin file ( i was wondering were they were coming from).lol. I also went back and watched my data logging one thing i notice is my knock sensor is pegged out ? Do these go bad? If so wouldnt these read O? Also during first readings my o2 stays really high at idle 600 to 800. I think mainly cause of the surge caused by the lean in feature to keep it running just dumping tons of fuel in at idle. I cant find a solid answer about the size of injectors that come in the holley 670? Also my blm is staying at or around 160 shouldnt it be closer to 128? Going to add in line fuel pump to bring pressure up put gauge on it and was only reading 10 #. Maybe why my knock sensor is tapped out?

The 10 psi of fuel pressure is within the service range (9 - 13 psi). Although with the BLM at 160 that is adding a lot of fuel. So it may be that either the O2 sensor is bad or running too cold. Or possibly the fuel pressure is dropping off under load.

Although, I am assuming that the BPC vs VAC table is set at 135 for a stock TBI injector flow. If you lowered the values the BLM will increase to compensate.

With the TBI units that Holley sells as a larger bore drop on, the injector flow rate would need to be around stock. Which for a 350 is in the 61 to 67 #/hr range (it varied over the years/vehicle).

Going lean at idle will cause surging.

Knock going nuts: either false knock or real knock. False knock can be created by a number of things. Such as an exhaust rattle, bad bearing in an accessory, loose or broken accessory bracket.

Yes, although will need to change the ECM EFI harness connectors to the pi style or have a HAM board installed into the EBL Flash ECM.

Did anyone find a reliable source for ECM connector pins (the harness side)??? I could not find anything in PED catalogs that resembles these pins...

Edge card connector (x-fire) or the pin ('8746) type?

Thank you Rbob

Delphi Connection Systems - that's what I should have been searching for - not Packard Electric Division (the old P.E.D.)! Yes, couple hundred pins should last awhile.

Re: EBL FLASH.... How do I start?

IAC

You can visually look at it to see if it is cycling. Look down the TBI bore and with key on it cycles. Is it attached to harness? Are you seeing high idle at start up? Or its you idle always high?

Learn saves the .bin. I change the name to date I creatted .bin. like 02212011.bin. if I created two bins that day I may save the other like 02212011ae.bin or 02212011pebin. After bin is saved it is placed into the 'bank" 1-7 and then flashed in if I care to do so that day.

Re: EBL FLASH.... How do I start?

Is there any setting to change to lower th a/f ratio on cold idle starts? It dont idle high its more of the idle falling off then its dumping fuel to keep it running. Theres no vacum leaks, new map,new iac new cts.

Re: EBL FLASH.... How do I start?

there is a coolant temp modifier to the OL tables to do that

do i have to shut anything off for the egr?
I recall there is a temp setting. set it very high to disable. also look in flags. maybe uncheck flag for EGR. EGR occurring will affect your VE Learns.

Re: EBL FLASH.... How do I start?

Just want to check on this one.Do i need a IAT? I am still getting flashing box on malf code( IAT 23 ). I get a real heavy gas smell and my gas milage is sucking. When i do a diagnois test the iat is showing 255 count? Stays at 104 on the wud? Would a IAT clear this up? Dont know what else to do to get the A/F right. Thanks Robert

Re: EBL FLASH.... How do I start?

You dont "need" an IAT. However they would be recommended and an easy add on. If you care not to run one at this time I believe you need to uncheck the flag for IAT to avoid the CE and change the IAT/coolant tables to all 100%. That uses coolant temp exclusively.. Any other malf flags?

The first light will blink as the ECM finds the sensor value bad. However, the second and third lights along with the SES won't be set. The ECM is also using a default value for the IAT as it knows it is bad (non-existent).

Re: EBL FLASH.... How do I start?

Few more question. I went back threw my set up and set my timing at 0* est unpluged. When i do this and reset and plug back in the est it back fires threw the intake and has no power? Any suggestions? Also do u run the RPm up to 2000 then set ur timing or just let it idle to set it?

You can but it isn't recommended. The bird cage style responds much faster. For a push in type, mounts in a rubber grommet, get one from a '90 - '92 VIN E 5.0l TBI Camaro or Firebird.

For a threaded style (3/8" NPT?), get one from a '90 - '92 VIN T 3.1l MPFI Camaro/Firebird.

Timing needs to be set with the engine at idle. By 2K RPM the distributor limp mode timing is being added, which won't allow the base timing to be properly set.

Once set: key-off, reconnect the EST/BYPASS connector, and start the engine. Check the timing mark on the damper, it should have moved toward the passenger side of the car. If not then the pick up coil is bad.

I got the air temp sensor, Now i need to know where the wires are to hook it up? Do i have to pin new wire If so do u know which one? If it shows knock count is up does it pull timing?

Re: EBL FLASH.... How do I start?

I believe the location is shown on dynamicefi website. Did you car orig have a IAT? Should show on a service manual. Maybe the orig wire is still there?

Knock will pull timing until K no longer occurs. Quantity of retard is adjustable in your EBL.bin. Mechanicla knock is also a possibility. Need to dermine if real detonation or mechanical noise.

Headers tend to have a resonance frequency at certain RPM which knock sensor will pick up. Distinguishing between real knock and mechanical noise is very difficult. Real knock usually occurs when engine transition from light load cruise RPM to higher output, high load operating regime. You can spot this in the data log by plotting VSS, TPS, KS and RPM on the same graph.
