new to PROM burning - will this Moates purchase get me started?
I am eager to get started on PROM burning for my 89 GTA. I read the FAQs, etc... but I wasn't sure on a few items. Here's what I came up with:
1. G1 Memory Adapter ($35)
2. BURN1 Flash-n-Burn USB-Based Chip Programmer ($85)
3. C2 SST 27SF512 Chip (Should be EEPROM) ($5)
I never had an ECM apart, so I don't quite understand how the G1 adaptor can replace the stock chip. Is the stock chip on a stand alone board that has a cable attached? Also, I read something about this making the limp home memcals not work. Also, I think the BURN1 said it can handle EEPROMS so that should be ok but I wasn't sure if the 27SF512 was an EEPROM.
Let me know if you think this should get me burning new chips for my GTA. Thanks for any info !

The G1 adaptor plugs in where the MEMCAL usually is. The MEMCAL plugs into the side of the G1, retaining the limp mode NETRES. The 27SF512 is a Flash chip which will work with the Burn1 and your ECM.
Note that your current BIN is 1/4 the size of the '512 chip. So look into how to offset burn or stack the BIN for proper operation.

i use the Burn1 for my car and bought that G1 adapter kit. I dont use those chips tho, i have older style 256 chips, but those will work if you can stack the bins. Tunerpro has a bin stacker thing in the program but i never used it
