can't get winaldl to work with moates usb
hey, i don't have a serial port on my compaq, so i use moates aldl cable which works fine with tunerpro, but not with winaldl. i want winaldl's fuel and knock tables since they show you everything at once, you can just drive around real easy and see whats up with the ranges you use, tunerpro is more usefull as a tuning program then as a datalogging one i think... in any case, i've checked the port sttings that came with moates equipment, set them all to the right ones and set the port in winaldl, but no beans the computer won't talk to the car,, what gives? i've searched for "usb winaldl" and haven't seen anything pertinent yet, some help would be appreciated.

Re: can't get winaldl to work with moates usb
Geez, I have the exact opposite problem, my Moates USB cable works with WINALDL but with TurnerPro I get garbage frames intermixed with occasionally a good set of values.
I believe WINALDL only works with 160 baud ECMs, do you know if yours is 160 or 8192?
What speed did you set your serial port at? Mine is set at 115Kbaud, the Moates interface apparently automatically selects the correct speed on the ECM end. There is also a delay setting that I think they have you set down to 1, did you do that?
Do you see any garbage in your TunerPro readings? What kind of update rate are you getting on the measurements (for example my PROM ID number often shows the wrong value)?

Re: can't get winaldl to work with moates usb
tunerpro works like a charm, i set all values to what came with the moates stuff. mine is 8192, however should be able to work anyways. also 16's have to use that 10k ohms switch in order to transmit correctly, it's on the side of the serial usb converter. im sure someone will chime in soon with something simple to fix this.
are you sure you're using the correct ADS file in TP?

If your ECM is 8192 speed I think that's your problem, I don't think WINALDL works at that speed. I tried my cable on my '94 L05 truck which has a 8192 speed ECM and TunerPro was rock solid on that vehicle but WINALDL wouldn't work at all, I think it only works on 160 baud ECMs.
Since my first post I got a support email back from Moates stating that there were some known problems with TunerPro at 160 baud but they are working on it, so I guess I'll just have to wait (I do have the recommended .ads file for my ECM loaded).
The WINALDL logging is pretty nice, so I wish either TunerPro would implement something like that or the WINALDL guy would enhance his software to support more ECM types, hopefully one of those things will happen.

the 165 is a supported ecm in the winaldl software, it's listed in the ecm's section of the readme, however the dat will be 160 baud no matter what the output of the ecm. at least that's my understanding of it

Re: can't get winaldl to work with moates usb
Here is how I have mine set. I had to figure this out when I shorted out my homemade serial cable. In WinALDL config, baud is set to 4800 and it is com4. On the back of the Auto prom (mine has 2 horizontal switches) the switch on the right(outside) is to the right. Viola, works great. The only downside is that the switch has to be put back in order for TunerPro to burn chips, or even connect to the APU1. After switching the switch back
unplug the USB into the APU1 and plug back in, then click connect in TunerPro and it will recognize the APU1 again. Works great for me so far.
