Needhams EMP-10 Programming help

Hey all,
I am trying to program a 27C256 chip for my camaro with a Needham's EMP-10 programmer. I used tunerpro to edit the bin. I can verify the chip is blank and load device into the buffer without any issues. The problem is when I try to write to the chip I get a program verify error stating that the buffer data doesn't match the file data. buffer data is 13 and file data is FF. Anyone know what is going on here?

After you read the device to the buffer, are you saving the buffer to a file?

No, I guess I assumed that when you load the file from disk, you just load it into the buffer and then write to the chip. Is that not the case?

I have had a similar problem on certain eproms. Try programming the same eprom a second time. Usually goes thru fine.

I am guessing you are using the old DOS based program? That is the only one I have found, and it can be picky sometimes. I do it this way, and it seems to work. Still balks sometimes, but not too bad. Am using 29c256's, but procedure was the same on the 2732's I used to use.

Power up device. Start program.
Select proper chip. insert chip. Select file name.
verify device is erased. load file into buffer.
verify buffer equals file.
program with selected algorithm.
verify device equals buffer.

I remember that the fact the file name is selected in one place, and then there is a separate 'load file' command did throw me off when i first started.
And don't put the chip in until after you select the right one.

Btw, if the 29c256's will work, i recommend getting a few. The 27's are the old UV erasable types, right? If so, the 29's are a real step forward.

Have you stacked the bin?

Re: Needhams EMP-10 Programming help

I tryed the suggestions based on what 7Point4 listed and am still having issues. I was wondering if I have to do anything with the splitting selection at all. It is set to 1 right now. Also when I select the device and load the file into buffer, the selection for the algorithm on the right side of the screen is set to "intelligent 1ms 3x". Is this supposed to be one of the other selections (quick pulse, averaging)? Not sure if I am stacking bins? How do you tell?

Re: Needhams EMP-10 Programming help

If you need a stacked bin, you would have to do that with another program, i believe. I stack using the util built into TunerPro now, but when burning the 2732's, I did not have to stack.

The algorithm should be picked automatically when you select the device. One more thing, make sure you are picking the right manufacturer as well. All with like numbers are not always exactly the same.

I am actually using the 27C256 chip with a 730 ecm. A 2732 is for a diff. application isn't it?

Re: Needhams EMP-10 Programming help

yea. the 2732 is for a different app. My point was that sometimes you have to stack the bin to make it fit right. I would think that a stock chip would not need stacked, but not for sure on your app.
