I can't get the program to open at all. I tried everything, even startedup in safe mode with both computers. Heck, I watched all my administrative tools and non of them seem to be doing anything. My friend has 98 and he couldn't even get the program to open after doing the regsvr32 *.ocx
This is quite disapointing after I already built the cable
Can you list the required dlls for the program so I can check that I have them all registered?
It's making the ini file but that's it, nothing more. Doesn't show up under processes or applications in task manager.

That sounds just like when the OCX is not installed.
These are the files used when I start it on my Windows 2000 computer: (in the order they loaded )

Just to prove that I have it installed and I did it.
I'm going to look for all these files. I hope I can get it all figured out. Thanks
BTW, I don't have the following dlls:
c:\windows\system\pdshell.dll
c:\windows\system\pdtools.dll
c:\windows\system\PDeskRes.dll

Sorry but i was talkin bulls**t. I checked my documents and "E" point is marked to be right 160 baud serial data connector. I looked at my older documents and there point "M" is referred as 8192 baud connection. But still, how the heck iŽm using Winaldl and with connection to "M" point? Have i made such a great RS232-converter that it can convert 8192 baud data to 160 baud data for Winaldl to read and show correct information? Or is Winaldl so great program that it can read 8192 baud data also?

Well I got it to work. Just had to format my hard drive and reinstall win2k, all better now. Looking real good, now if I could only get it to work on my laptop.
Is there anychance you could add features like exporting a real time graph. Diacom does graphs but it isn't in real time. You have to capture the data, then graph a max of 3 feedbacks. I think that would blow diacom out of the water and push them to produce a graphical update for the old and outdated format. I think it's funny that Diacom hasn't really changed since day one yet they still charge $$$ for their software. Anybody else feel me on this one?
They would sell more if they competed with the hand held scanners and not just speedshops. Just look at the autoxray, I don't like it but it works and it's affordable. Now if Diacom was a dos/windows95/windows98/windows2000/windowsME/windowsXP compatible and priced at about $150 includes the hardware....they would sell more yes/no? Oh well, just let me rant

Just app on desktop. I have to figure out why my win95 laptop doesn't want to run it.
It might take a format and reinstall or it might just need some runtime files. I don't know, but I'll figure it out. I did hook up the cable and no smoke so that's a good sign.

You think Diacom doesn't sell enough such that they need to tailor the program to our desires?

Craig, I guess we aren't really their "aim" so to speak but I think we represent the beginning of a a large trend. Who are they trying to sell their software too? Only speedshops? Are we (people that program eproms) so few that we wouldn't represent a fraction of their market? I truely don't know the numbers so I'm asking.
Anyhow, Craig, when do you think you'll come out with 160 baud support .
I'm just glad this software came out when it did. There are a lot of guys on the TBI board that don't like to get their hands dirty unless they have to. This is a great way for them to play with their thirdgen and SEE that their mods are causing a lean WOT and that the NEED to get dirty and play with fuel pressure. I just get sick and tired of explaining how speed density works.

Do you mean like a short trend with a few values that scroll as new values appear?

That's exactly what I mean . Would be nice to to watch the 02 voltage, BLM and MAP all in a graphical display.
Let me just say that this software is beautiful. Thanks again for spending the time and making it work with the 8746

Two things this 160-baud support does for me personally: 1) Takes the heat off me to integrate the capability into my program ;^) and 2) Makes me happy to see others out here doing the right thing so to speak.
Apologies for my cynicism. Tequila makes me violent, but vodka brings out the cynic. How is it that different liquor can have distinctly different impacts on one's mood? Is it all psychosomatic?
Have fun!

I'm new to all of this stuff, but I want to try it out. All I could find at our radioshack were some 2n4401 transistors. Will these work? Someone said that you had to run two of them instead of one, how do I hook that up?
Thanks,
Mike

Many compliments to your software. Thanks Ken for replying to my emails, and helping me get started with the computer side of tuning. It was very neat to see the stats on the laptop, and great to know that I am running optimal at part throttle, and not lean at WOT.
Keep up the great work,

Thanks Jonas, I really appreciate this. Since I've put in the new motor I've been wondering how my chip has been handling it...
Thanks,

does anybody know if there will be a update to this program to accomodate 8160 bauds, eg: 16147060 pcm,
i am looking to purchase a scantool like ease but would hate to do this if something like this program was available in the near future. presently using trial datamaster.
also, does the akm cable work with this program.

I am glad to hear that you all appreciate the work that we ( Ken & I ) put into this project.
I think that this software can compare with a lot of the $$$ products that is out there as it is now, and we still have more functions to add.
prscarf,
We have no plans for 8160 bauds yet.
I don't know about the akm cable.
I think that most of the newer 8160 baud ECM's still support the 160 baud format. You will not get as much data, and at a slower frequency, but it might work.

If you've got TPI, get Craig's software.
edit: My bad, didn't see the post of the pcm number. I know Diacom works but that's all I know that will work with the pcm.

I finally got my win95 laptop to run the program. Took me one guess to get it right. The shlwapi.dll file that I didn't have was somehow linked to IE. So I downloaded and installed IE 5.5 and now it works. Go figure!
Now it's time to test the cable and program against Diacom

Scott, did you try jiggling the wires where you put them in the ALDL connector? That's often-times the culprit. Keep the laptop on and the car on (doesn't have to be running to send data, just turned on) and jiggle the wires going into the ALDL connector.
If it still doesn't work, see if you can get your hands on a 2N2222 instead.

I turned on the PC, plugged in the Serial port, inserted the 2 wires, pput key in the "ON" position, then started the application. Nothing happend, so I turned the car on, and still got nothing. I selected the ECM for my vehicle (1228746 1991-92 5.0 V8 TBI 'E' L03 ('F' body), but I didnt get any data. I am using the 2N3904, could this be my problem? Anyone have a spare 2N2222 laying around they can let me have? Thanks guys.</font>
I tried it. Didnt work. Maybe I didnt have the cable wired up correctly, but I am pretty sure I did. I'll double check later on today. What are the steps invloved in checking the cable? WOW!!!
I'm glad to hear that someone was actually able to use that ALDL information that I posted on my website! I've never received much in the way of feedback on that info, and figured that maybe no one really cared/used it.
Cheers,
"Dan".

It's a good site you got there! I found lot's of useful info. Where did you find all that?
As you probably know I have an 84 Corvette with a Cross-Fire 350. ( ECM 1226026 ). You don't happen to have any info about that one that "didn't make it" to your web site?
Many bytes are the same as 1225550 (82 Cross-Fire) but there are a few unknowns also.

Already mentioned this on the TBI board, but I thought I'd let you prom guys know too, it *does* work on the '88 8063 ECU quite happily.
Also, the 2N2222 transistor can be replaced with a MPS2222A transistor instead (which is actually in-stock at radio shacks)
------------------
'88 Camaro, hunter green metallic, T-top
LO3 305 TBI/700r4
Performance mods: None yet
Audio mods: still swapping..
'86 Camaro SC, black /w silver racing stripes
2.8l MPFI/700r4 /w special 2nd gear delete option
Misc Mods: Cut air box, '83 Firebird spoiler.
Performance Parts: Accel 8mm wires, SplitFire plugs, Gabriel hijackers.
Audio Mods: removing
