"Flashing" the Atmel 29C256 eprom????

I am using Intronics Pocket programmer to program chips and I can't figure out how to erase the 29C256 prom to reprogram it. When I select the chip from the menu it comes up as a 5V Flash prom and there no erase button appears. When I try to program the chip, the the message, "Device is not erased" appears. BTW, I am using the Windows version software.
Thanks for any help on this.

Try filling the buffer with "FF"'s. Then program the chip with the "FF" filled buffer. This should erase it.

The software should not care if the chip is erased. It erases it "on the fly" when you program it. Are you sure you're selecting an Atmel 29C256 5V chip ? It's towards the bottom of the list of chips under Flash Proms.

Get the latest version of the pocket programmer software for windows , I was having no end of problems getting a 90% failure rate until I upgraded now I am getting less than 2% failure rate - same chips.
I havent needed to fill the buffer with FF's just the binary file and program.

New problem, I am using the $32B code and i'm having problems reading the file once I try to open it in Tunercat. The error message says, I need to get the $32 definition code. Well, how do I only program only 16K and not the full 32K of the chip?
Thanks.

you'll want to program the 16k bin file to the upper half of the eprom(mem address 4000-7FFF)
