WinALDL 160 baud Connection questions
What is the start up procedure for getting the program to connect to the ecm? I started the program, Connected the cable to the car, then started the car. is this the correct procedure?
Next, Your interface diagram shows pinouts for a DB25 connector. But the .ini file doesn't lool like it's supports the LPT1 only the COM1 which is a DB9 connector. Is the only way the progrom will communicate through the COM1 port? or will it change the .ini file like it does with the ECM type?
Thanks,
Lars

Lars, older comm ports were actually 25 pins - the diagram shows the pinouts for both 9 pin and 25 pin ports. Both are comm ports. The program does NOT run off the LPT (printer) port.
You can plug it in with any procedure you like - it doesn't really care. Start the car, start the program.. start the program, start the car.. as long as data is being output, it will see it if you have it connected up.

I see, thanks for the quick answer. i just resoldered a 9 pin connector on there. And took the 25 pin for the LPT1 off. Hopefully this should work (as Fast_broker crosses his fingers). We'll see this weekend.

Did you know that all electrical parts are filled with smoke??? Yep thats right, and as soon as you see the smoke come out of them, they aren't going to work any more. I haven't seen any smoke, and if I do, I got backup parts. Have faith Ed. I'll get it to work.

Yes. The 25 pin on most new computers is a parallel port (LPT1), which x-mits and recieves data 8 bits at once. A serial gets and sends one bit at a time.
If you still can't get it to work try different COM settings.
