Engine stalls after hot start when put in gear.
My engine has a tendency to stall when I do a hot start and then put the tranny from park to R or D. The engine starts right up, no problem there. But when I put the tranny in gear, the engine RPM takes a nose dive, down to about 500 RPM and has a tendency to stall before the IAC can react, I guess.
Since I program my own Eproms, what should I look at? I believe that I have bumped up the RPM in gear value some last year. Or is the IAC just getting lazy. It is the original factory IAC from 20 years ago.
I'm running the stock 165 ECM with the $6E definition file. I am using TunerCat.

How low is the idle originally?
Any timing or fuel quirks when this occurs?
Is the TB and IAC pretty and shiny clean? Depending on how close to that edge you are this could be all it takes?
Try bumping up the IAC counts slighlty when in gear.(the actual prom settings for "in gear" "ac on" etc)
Also helps to have the IAC counts low in park/gear so the TB is open enough to let it idle with minimum IAC assistance.

The idle at running temp was set at 800 and the in P/N RPM adder was 50. I lowered the idle RPM to 775, and I reduced the in P/N setting to 0.
The car idles great now and when I put it from Park to R of D, the engine does not stall.
Thank you for the help.
