730 ECM / Oil Temp
Hello Everyone,
I have a 1991 Z-28. Can I connect a oil temp sensor to the ECM....Wiring harness? So that with my Scan Software(EASE)I may monitor the temp.
Thanks Everyone

Sure it can be done.. Buy a Oil temp sensor for a 1991 corvette.. it goes just above the oil filter in the block. It is 3 wire.
Pin A= Ground
Pin B= to F12 on the 730
Pin C= Goes to Temp gauge
That may work.. if not you may need to use a Corvette Version of a BIN file. I am not sure if the scan tool will read the temp or not..

You most likely will have to convert to the 727 ECM used in the Corvette. I am not sure if there is a "driver" in the 7730 to handle the "input" for the Oil Temp Sensor, but there DEFINITELY is for the 727.
I use Diacom and I specifically TRIED to have Diacom try and read my 7730 ECM as a 91 Corvette. Diacom could not and gave an error message that it was unable to link to the ECM. So there is differences between the 727 and 730. I wanted the "extra field" to display some other information that I wanted in the "Oil Temp" sensor reading, but it would not.
On Ease, the "Oil Temp" is probably just a blank field to save having to have a bunch of different screens for each model of GM car; i.e. Ease reuses the same screen for an F-body and Y-body, though there is different information.

Glenn, You may be right. But I had gotten that information I posted from Ludis' page. He has a nice pin cross reference for the 727 and the 730. I do know by looking at the 91 vette ALDL Pinout and the 90-92 F-body ALDL they are different. I no longer have my F-body GM Service Manual but if you could scan the page with the connector face and pin config I will compare them to the 91 vette manual I have..

I have a Corvette with the 7730 and a Corvette bin. I had to disable the oil temp sensor so I didn't get a code. The oil temp guage works but there is no imput in the 7730 that I know of.

Hello Everyone,
Thanks for the input.. I asked because I saw a neg temp for Oil Temp on the EASE software for OBD1. I have a Stock 91 Z-28 Camaro Convertible. Likie to connect it somehow...Don't want extra gauges in my car...Want the factory look...If I am curious...Plug in the scanner
Thanks again

Well I think if you used the Corvette sender I suggested in a previous post and just wire the pin B to the ECM and pin A to Ground, it should work just fine
