neg lead from coil to tach

neg lead from coil to tach
am running stock 1984 digital dash. i tapped into the above to feed both my new autometer tach as well as a feed to my Innovate LM1 WB02. new tach works well.
does anyone know the AMPS the tach is pulling or requires?
long story short is the HEI does not cooperate with LM1 and it needs a potentiometer added in line from the feed off the neg coil lead. the signal from coil is ragged and the POT will allow the LM1 to see a clean signal. currently dirty. i was told to use a 10K(kilo-ohms) POT and will.
