something neat i found, NEEDHAMS programmer owners W/IN
I have a pb10, using it to program 2732As
Ive constantly been given problems trying to program chips, ill have a streak of good burns, and then ill just have tons of retries and for some reason the chips lock up mid burn with an error, or when they do program, they dont work in the car (rapid ses for prom error)
tonight I was having huge difficulties trying to get them to program finally i just started looking at everything in the program, got to help was lookin at the info on the algorithm selection, i never messed with it as such it was always at default, they give you three choices for my chip the first is standard 50ms , second is "Intelligent 1ms 3x" and the last is Averaging
the help literature explains that averaging is Needhams own algorithm that works as fast as it can checking for errors as it goes and changes speed accordingly (from what i understood...)
So i selected averaging, and to my surprise the chip programmed, and to my delight, the averaging algorithm is WAY WAY WAY faster than the standard, It literally programs the chip within seconds, id say under 5-10 seconds whereas before id sit here waiting for 2-3 minutes at a time as the chip programmed and many times it would give me errors, just did another chip on averaging and it worked perfect yet again (i rarely get two in a row to work)
if Im being a master of the obvious here forgive me, i never messed with the algorithm selection but try it if you havent its nearly instantaneous programming

That's strange... My pocket programmer doesnt take more then 7-8 seconds to burn my 256K EPROM. I did notice that some EPROMs program faster (only 3-4 seconds difference). But it never took minutes though! That would suck... lol

I think I've been using the "intelligent" programming mode, that is the default isn't it? I can't recall ever having to wait for more than like, 10 seconds.. never minutes.
The problems I run into can be solved by putting the chip back into the eraser and letting it sit for like, 20 minutes. I must be too anxious and yank 'em out of the eraser too fast or something!
