BIN Repository .... place your suggestions HERE --->

OK guys,

There's several ways we could do this. But, since the site is going to be for all of us here ... I want all of your input

We need a workable directory structure. I've been toying with this for some time now and I have two suggestions. Which do you prefer?

Suggestion 1 (technical):
Breakdown by ECM# (165, 730, etc.)
Then breakdown by Broadcast code ($32, $32B, $8D, etc.)
Then breakdown by year
Then breakdown by body type (F or Y)
Then breakdown by engine size
Then breakdown by transmission
Then have two directories: GM and Peformance

Suggestion 2 (intuitive):
Breakdown by Year
Then breakdown by body type (F or Y)
Then breakdown by engine management (TPI, TBI, etc)
Then breakdown by engine size
Then breakdown by transmission
Then have two directories: GM and Peformance.

GM directories will contain only stock GM bins. The performance directories will contain two directories inside of them. One entitled 'User' and one entitled 'Other'. The User directory will contain BINs submitted by users of this forum ... ALONG with an appropriate text file fully explaining the BIN (we'll talk about this later). The 'Other' directory will contain 'other' performance BINs. Please don't ask me what types of BINs will be in the 'other' category.

Suggestions welcome ... but, at least tell me which method you guyz prefer.

Tim

I like #1 and it go into detail. I have a friend that is going to let me upload all his Mem/Cals. He has street&performance chips, a Doctor K and a Hal, he also has a bunch of stock to. He had big problems at first when he put his TPI in. Just to let all know he still has problems. He has paid about $900 - $1000 for all the mem/cals and they all are not right. So from what I have seen, the one selling proms and cals are just learning to and are getting paid for it.

I'd have to go with #1 as well, the most important thing to know is what ECM it is for, that should be one of the first things you pick from.

As for that other website's organization, we'll probably have LOTS of BINs before too long, and we'll need more classifications than what is given there.

I like both of them, but the first is probably better in the sense that you have to know the number of the ECM and broadcast code to get started. Although a cross reference listing would be a nice addition. Let's say at the top of the directory we have a few listings that are sorted by year/make or body type or whatever. Then when you identify the PROM you are uploading/downloading, you will then know what directory to put it in. I imagine there would be an "incoming" directory.

This is going to be GREAT! (as Tony would say).

Now I will have to try and convince some friends with F-bodys to let me *borrow* their ecm for a while. LOL.

Mark.

What's the timeline on this? I've a small collection for upload, and I'm sure others out there do as well. Also, what about implementation logistics and legal? Are we covered fully on both counts? Just curious...
