Unexpected Connectivity Problems w/ Two Laptops

Thanks guys
Thanks for the info on what wires work. Right now were running "junkyard" wires. They are a used set I had purchased from the parts store. They used to be on my '84 Chevy truck (converted to TBI).

You know I have heard from various sources that the hei units are real sensititve to certain plugs and that you should not run them in GM's but never heard of wires. I am going to look into some kind of GM approved hei type wires. I also have a Crane Fireball coil on the car. I am running rapidfire plugs so I assume I am OK there. Guys let me know if you what you think of your wires. I will more than likely get them from Summit not Pep boys.

I have Accell wires, cap and coil. AC plugs for the Vortec's. The only problems that I have had are also connectivity using the IOGear USB/Serial converter like Fast355 is using. Every now and then if you plug it too soon after starting the computer the screen/cursor wig's out. Same thing if you plug it in with no problems but try to start the WUD right away. If you give the system say 20/30 seconds or so after plugging in before trying to start it works ok.
I have yet to rig up the Craig Moates ALDL1 that I have and try to use the serial signal from the terminal strip on the EBL. Craig's box worked flawlessly with WINALDL. I am not sure which wire on the cable feeding it I should hook to for the higher baud rate.

This thread is extremely valuable... I think I'm beginning to have this same problem. I am using summit universal wire set, supposedly with RF protection. I believe they are manufactured by Taylor. I was able to datalog flawlessly for about a month, now 5-15 seconds after the engine is running the values will freeze. I'm curious how many other people have had this problem with Taylor... also what wires do yall recommend? Thanks.

Just as an update ... we are still having the issue. We are not entirely sure what is causing the connection issue. We've spoken with Craig Moates, Skoggen and Dickie High Performance, as well as Taylor. We're not convinced any one item is causing the problem.

We should talk soon...I have a few ideas I've shared with your dad. Also, the 1220411 PCM projects are getting exciting. I'd love to help your dad out with a 1220411 harness...but if there is definitely an interference problem not related to the equipment we're using then a new harness and ECM is probably not a good idea.

We'll talk soon, I'd like to hear your ideas, and I'm def. excited for the upcoming trip for the 1220411 projects. I also need to start thinking about tuning on this *****'s some more. Winter is fast approaching and it will soon be time to swap in the LT4 hot cam. That means tuning all over again, unfortunately ... without an autoprom for logging.
