Original AKRM

Let's see if I can break the rules right off. I've read them, and it looks to me like this MAY be an allowed request.

If not, please forgive me.

Does anyone have a .bin file of an ORIGINAL AKRM chip? This is for '88 Firebird "E" engine code, manual transmission, 1228063 ECM $4D.

My original chip has a broken pin, and I have never been sure if the resulting .bin I got was any good. (I tried to solder a wire to the stub of the broken pin, with dubious success.)

I've been tuning with an AMYB .bin that I found. Can anybody tell me what the AMYB was originally for?

Thanks.

if its anywhere, it will be at one of these 2 places:

moates.net, under the file manager link

diy-efi.org, in the ftp links, that one will require you to dig around.

you might get lucky, and someone might have that .bin floating around here. And asking for a virgin bin is allowed here. Just not asking for someone to make a tune for you as a tuner/buyer relationship, or begging for a copy of someone's bin.

as for looking up BCC's (broadcast codes) someone had a link to an online look-up though that might have been taken down. Tunercat has a cheap (I think 20 bucks) application to look up pretty much all BCC prior to 1996. I'd look it up for you, but I don't have the app installed on this machine. Someone may chime in.

how badly is the pin broken? If you can get some wire soldered onto the stub, you can still read the chip, even if its the last time it ever works.

Thanks. I've looked all through Moates and diy-efi/GMECM, to no avail. Hopefully someone here can come through.

Updated my sig, so it may be apparent why I want the original AKRM. I got this feeling it might help the street manners on this build, and for the 400 coming up. Right now, the cam I've got in this build is too long. Street manners below 2000 rpm are atrocious.

But then, check out that ET--1.84 60' and 12.9 @103!

Of course, the 400 will solve that, too.

Questions ok... Better forum for this would be the DIY-Prom.

BTW, is that time in your sig for real?! Nice work on a 305!

Try this site:

efitune.com GM BINS and more

When you use it, use the "GO" button (don't push enter, it won't work).

I looked up them both up and it looks like AMYB is just a newer version for the same vehicle....

Yep. That's real. The price I paid for that, though, was really bad street manners. With the gearing, it runs 1950 rpm at 75 mph. Most non-Interstate around here is 55-65 speed limit, which is 1450-1700 rpm. Because of excessive cam overlap for the displacement, I get backfire and flat spot between 58 and 70 mph, which really messes with a normal drive. The engine doesn't "wake up" until 3000+. Too much cam for a 305 with this gearing!

I can scratch rubber on every shift (even got rubber twice on a hot day on the 4-5 shift). But if you can't enjoy a normal drive, the joy doesn't last long.

Thanks to "silvernblack" for the info. Looks like I can be happy with the AMYB as the base, then.

The 400 small-block that's on the stand now, I'm building it for pure torque and a 5300-rpm red line. Should still run 12's, but be really sweet on the street and open road.

Thanks, guys. I really appreciate it.
