Newbie bin file question.

Well I have read everything I can find but still can't get a correct bin or read the one I have. I have the Memcal adapter from moates but when I try to read the factory memcal it tells me its not the right size. So I can't use the rom editor I have.

The info I have is:
1988 Firebird
5.7 auto
1227165 ecm
BCC is AKXZ

I guess I need the AKXZ bin to get everything working. I have searched all the FTP files and the Moates files. I am at a loss and am close to throwing in the towel. I hate to have to ask for help but I have search for a few nights straight and can't even find one single AKXZ .bin on the entire internet.

Any help would be greatly appreicated.

Thanks
David

I use the Pocket Programmer, so I am not familiar with Moates Memcal adapter, but you should make sure you set your bin file size to 16KB. And as far as you "stock config" just get on Moate's FTP and download any stock binary under the $32B category. Be sure you check whether the transmission matches yours (Manual or Auto). Later you will be able to use the $6E once you get a better handle on how to read all the parameters.

When you say memcal adapter, do you mean a memcal adapter to allow you to read the stock chip from within the memcal using a chip reader/burner, or do you mean an adapter to plug in a custom chip to the ECM? Asked a different way, do you mean this:

Documentation : Moates.Net

or this:

http://www.moates.net/documentation....entation_id=12

If it's the second, make sure you've attached your memcal correctly. Read the info at that link.

What hardware are you using to read the chip? If a Moates Flash & Burn (BURN1), you need the following settings:

Chip type = 27C128
Chip start address = 0
Chip end address = 3FFF
Buffer start = 0
Buffer end = 3FFF

Go for it!
