winaldl trouble please help

okay i have everything set to default except the ecm im using and i cant get it to log more than three things....i have an 8746 ecm and a homeade cable. the light at the top flashes off and on red and changes numbers between 1 and 2 in the box. i can log random data in MW2 colum and some points a little less often (not constant like the other one) in PromIDA and PromIDB colums. any idea what the problem could be i will be going no where quick w/ all this stuff i got for tunning if i cant even datalog. thanks

I have a 91 rs originally with the L03. I did not have to use the 10k resistor across a and b to get my data stream to transfer. What are you using to datalog (winaldl)?

I actually had a problem with datalogging earlier this year. I would only get good reads every third pass or so. I found dust and a dog hair (can't get away from the stuff) caught in the EPROM socket. I cleaned it up and cleared up the data stream. Solid reads since. Now I always put the cover back on the ECM.

You may want to double check everything is wired correctly and none of your contacts in your cable are touching one another. Also make sure everything in your ecm is tight and clean.

yeah im using winaldl....and as far as the dust or bad connections no dust cover stays on and connections should be good due to the fact the car runs decent for the most part. i read u have to close and reopen the winaldl after making changes to the baud rate im gonna try and change that and see if that works if not i dunno what the problem is. thanks

i purchased a cable with customefis.com and i think it was $40. the serial to usb was purchased afterwards(Radio Shack) as i changed laptop with XP. only issue was comp ports but that was solved in 24 hours. i connect to winALDL while car is running. i actually put in toggle switch and ALDL port connection stays in place. are you confident the cable was constructed correctly?

I'm certainly not an expert but being a newbie to winaldl I can relate.

The box at the top needs to flash green. I remember it flashing red once and the tables not working.

The cable under the dash was loose and did not have a good connection. After inserting it fully it has not happened again.

It's not getting full data.

my cable has GM male connectors that fit nicely into the aldl socket. almost like designed for it. car parts stores sell them. could be loose connection? once it connets it will populate raw data like there is no tomorrow. blms appear after about 3 min in CL.

I found a connector for a Genisys OTC scan tool on ebay, bought it for like $5.00, built it into my cable, and I have a good solid connection to my ALDL now.

i just found a GM style connector at auto parts store. it is the male end of two and very slim in design and crimps or solders on end. standard male female harware store connectors are too fat.
