Anyone used the new "crop" of USB programers?

I am going to get a laptop soon and almost everything out there doesn't have a serial port or parallel port on them.

Doing some looking around I found some new USB eprom programers (most of them sell on EBAY).

These are some of the ones I have seen
http://members.shaw.ca/topprogrammer/

And this one in specific
http://members.shaw.ca/topprogrammer/Top853.html

TOP853 USB Universal Programmer

Features:

Support 5V device;
Use USB as power source, no AC adaptor is needed.
USB communication with PC on data transfer rate 12Mhz/s.
Suitable for PC/Laptop user.
Build-in surge protection circuit to protect programmer and device.
Full pin connectivity verification.
Software will work under WindowsSE/ME/2000 and XP.
Compact size and low power consumption.
Signature ID recognition.
Programming use internal timer.

Supported Device:

EPROM: 2716 ~ 27080 ( Detials see supported IC list)
EEPROM: 28,29,39,49 series flash and EEPROM ( Detials see supported IC list)
MPU/MCU: 51 series Intel, Atmel, LG, Philips, Winbond;
SRAM test: 6264 ~ 628256
Serial memory: 24CXXX, 93CXX
PLD: 16V8X, 20V8X

Supported IC list click here

Software:

The English Software Patch is an English language software patch. It does not contain unrecogonized or "????" charactors.

Has anyone used these yet? Do they work?

I downloaded the software and it doesn't look to bad other then a poor translation to english.

Triaged, please put the burner information directly into the post. Stuff like make, model number, short description is helpful.

By TGO rules Ebay links are not allowed in any post. Even more important is that shortly after that auction closes the ad/link is gone. So a couple of months from now this thread becomes useless. By putting the burner info directly in your post the information stays. And down the road this thread is still meaningful.

Thanks,

RBob.

Sorry for not following the forum rules. It was not my intent to cause any problems and I can see why the rules exist...maybe I should have read all the rules I exited my origional post with some new links and cut/pasted some of the specs. for the one that looks to sell for ~$100.

I have been following along with posts on this board for a while (as well as the GM-ECM email list) and I have never seen any mention of these programers. My guess is they are some cheep "Heco en China" stuff but I don't have the $$$ to buy a "real" USB programer.

I had looked at the moates programer but it won't do any of the older 2732 type chips and that would be usefull for working on friends TBI and MAF TPI setups without having to put adapters in everything. moates sells some good stuff and I would be all over it if it just worked on the older chips too.

I have a willem programer that I could use at home. After looking at how much a parallel PCMCIA card for a laptop would cost it looks like these "TOP" brand programers might cost less then the card. I could even sell the willem programer on ebay if this will do all the stuff it does because I want to be able to play with some microcontroler stuff sometime.

Maybe I'll be the guiny pig and see how one works

I personally prefer to support the proven, US-built, cheaper, just-as powerful USB burner built and sold by a member of and frequent poster within this forum.

See JPrevost's earlier post in this thread.

AH, but he wants 2732 support....
I'd scrap the 2732's or just use your old programmer for home OR use your buddies home computer to do the burning. It's not like you don't have time to get out of the vehicle and run inside... it's a 2732... you gotta wait a few minutes for the UV to do it's job!
The burn1 is an excellent product. I've used it and support it. The only thing that could use some improvement is it's verify speed. I don't know what it is but my pocket programmer does a verify in a blink of an eye where as the burn1 does it at only a slightly faster than programming speed. Nothing to complain about but it's noticable to the seasoned chip burner

You try TOP programer. It great product. Very good price, work fine last long time. They good tech have support. Call them on phone, they tell you how make work.

Also, if your verify functionality on the BURN1 seems slow (ie. >1s), make sure your USB driver is set to a Latency of '1'.

Yep, generally works fine in that regard.

Certainly didn't mean to step on anyone's toes here. I always underestimate sensitivities, sorry.

In fact, I've never even tried using the TOP series of stuff. I'd read that the language barriers with respect to tech support and software implementation were a bit difficult, but that's it. They've been around for a couple of years, so I'm sure they'll do what they're supposed to do.

As for the string, I don't know what to say. Most everything I sell is assembled and tested with my own two hands. Hadn't seen a recent rash of strings. What color is it? Could it be thread? My wife does a lot of quilting. You never know.

In any case, if you'd like me to, I'll be glad to remove the string for you. Just let me know how you want to handle it. I know of no specific functionality it should serve, so it is probably safe to remove it without issue.

Guys...I'm sorry.

I was joking as Craig was. (Trying to help his post along actually as I thought he was funny)

I have nothing but good to say as far as dealing with Craig Moates and his support so far.

Certainly did not mean for it to be taken this way. Should have used a big after I wrote that.

Oh yeah..........no string except the one that I use to get room to room

(More like that is what I had in mind)

I would be lost without "all" of the support that I get from everyone here on the site.
