Craig, some questions plz...
People other than craig offering helpful advice, feel free to chime in.
Vehicle in question is my '72 Cheyenne/20, 350, 454 TBI, 350 injectors, '7747 modified with a moates G2, aries zif and atmel 29C256. I'm on my 6th chip revision and the truck is actually running pretty descent now, but the VE tables can definitely use some work...
Ok so I'm considering buying an ostrich in the next couple weeks, really dependent on me making a few bucks cause I'm a poor college kid and I don't just have $175 lying around, you know?
The questions, in no particular order:
1) Anyway, what I'm curious about is what specific chip design the ostrich is designed around emulating? My guess is the atmel 29C256, but would it be possible to have it emulate a 2732 (the stock chip for a 7747) so that to tune one of my friends trucks I could just solder in a zif socket direct to the ECM and install a burnt 2732 semi-permanently once I'm done with tuning
2) Is the G2 the proper adapter for using the ostrich on a 7747, assuming the scenario detailed in #1 is un-possible?
3) (for craig specifically) would you mind including a link to my site, www.speedyoldtruck.com in your links page? I'm a very satisfied customer having made 2 (soon to be 3) orders from you, and my site details the modification process of a 7747 using parts from you
4) Another project I'm looking at doing is reverse-engineering a Cadillac OBD-1 93-95 northstar ECM, which uses a pair of 29C256 chips from the factory. Would it be possible to see which addresses the ECM is accessing, considering that the pair of 29C256 chips makes things twice as hard to figure out, and the northstar ECM (stupidly) has no coded provision for an ALDL scanner, just code for reading SES lights thru the dash display - which means no tweak value, observe change thru datalogging, take notes style reverse-engineering. DMCA violation, here we come!
5) a hypothetical question, would it be possible to use two ostrich's at the same time on the cadillac ECM (assuming the same laptop - using two laptops would be a pain, especially given a limited size of interior)
6) another user on this board posted his software creation that took a winALDL log file, took note of the BLM addresses & correction factor, and modified the VE table accordingly. Has anyone come up with (or is working on) software that would take an ALDL cable and (in conjunction with an emulator) correct in real time? Seems to me that would be far faster & more efficient than using a logged file to correct VE for ideal BLM. I know that certain aftermarket ECU's (Greddy Emanage, AEM, Haltech and the like) have a certain ability to "self-tune" given an ideal AFR & a wideband O2

The ostrich can emulate just about anything from a 2732 upward. You just have to move 2 jumpers inside to switch to 24 pin mode. It really is a fantastic little box.

huh i thought those were obd1.5 partial compliance cars. i was pretty sure the northstars had scanner ports.

There is a 95 at the shop where I work it has a ob2 port under the driver side dash next to the parking brake, it does have a plastic cover over it. A lot of times they get kicked around and are just shoved up under the dash.

I looked all over the internet and couldn't find a picture of the dizzy let alone it's internals. Maybe a shop will have a manual for this car. It sounds like a legit ecm with minor wiring and some dizzy work.

IF I'm not mistaken(bruce correct this if I am wrong) but it was used in early 90 caddy app on the 4.5 or 4.9 engine.
If I had more info on it, I could check around the yard on my next trip and see if I can come up with it.
HAve a direct year model app Bruce? I'm kinda curious myself.
Any junkyard with an urban population will have tons of cadillacs :-) Cant swing a dead cat without hitting one at the big yards around here.

4.9L Caddy: 90-93 Deville/Seville/Allante
Be forewarned, the code is a bear, it evens handles oddities such as cruise control. Best bet would be to figure out the sequential hardware and port the $8D TPI code over to it.
The '2240 ECM is nice, has lots of RAM, lots of EPROM space, lots of I/O, and last but not least: 8 injector drivers.

1228322, '89 Fleetwood and DeVille (for that BCC), 4.5l TBI.
Interesting ECM, again, lots of RAM (for a C3), lots of ADC channels, decent I/O, but some dedicated to cruise control. One interesting difference is that it doesn't have an IAC driver. Just a reversable motor driver for the throttle blades.

I also have shop manuals for 94,95, and 96, and can scan wiring diagrams etc... for the 4.9L and Northstar engines if someone wants them, or has a place to host them.

Another sync OBD-I computer worth dealing with is the 94-95 Lt1 pcm's. To make it easier to work on, desolder the onboard flash and replace it with a chip adaptor. Badda bing badda boom you've got yourself a well documented SEFI pcm. This would require fitting an opti wheel and pickup under the rotor and cap.

Now would an LT1 pcm be able to be mated to the 2240 caddy style distirb guts transplanted into a smallblcok type dissy and be made workable. (cad has cam/crank in dissy correct?)
