Old High Gear Flag

Old High Gear Flag
Was just wondering if anyone could explain exactly what the "Old High Gear Flag" in WinAldl means?
Ive been testing chips on my truck for about a year now and have everything pretty close but i had to set my tcc lockup speeds in "Low Gear" to get it to lock up in overdrive. It wont even lock up in just drive and im thinking that it might be related to the old high gear flag. Is this maybe a reference pulse sent to the ecm to tell it when it is in drive/overdrive or am i just way off.
Thanks, mtl26637
Btw, its a 1989 chevy full size k1500, 5.7, with the 1227747 ecm $42.

I believe it means that you need to replace your fourth gear, sort of an expiration warning :lala: I was actually wondering the same thing though and if anyone could explain what it means, that would be awesome

The transmission was just rebuilt last year so hopefully its not a bad or plugged switch, but is it possible the company who rebuilt the tranny, forgot something? The transmission is a 700r4 (4l60), and if it in fact is a switch of somekind, does anyone know the color codes of the harness to the transmission to see if i can pinpoint the problem. It really sucks cause the TC wont lock up in "Drive".

The switches are easily accessable once you drop the pan. Once there, you can test each switch to make sure its not stuck closed. The ATSG manual has detailed scematics for all the years. I have the manual, but dont have my scanner at the moment

I actually bought the ATSG manuel last year before i had the tranny fixed but im not still not sure how the whole operation works. in winaldl i have at ALL times the "old high gear flag" checked so that makes me think that the ecm thinks it is in 4th gear. if that is the case then why is it that when i set the mph lockup points in "low" gear it works in 4th gear and everything i set in the lockup "high" gear does nothing.
Im not sure what model 700r4 i have but if i recall it is the "MD". I guess ill have to take a look again. From looking at the manuel there are 3 switches, (3rd CL switch, 4-3 downshift switch, and 4th clutch switch). does anyone know whitch switch would be the culprit or how these switches work.
Thanks so much for the help!
