What does CheckSum mean (tunerpro rt)

What does CheckSum mean (tunerpro rt)
What does checksum mean, I changed the values for my fan on/off temperaures and it changed teh checksum value from 5BE6 to 5B9A.

The checksum is what the ECM uses to see if the data in the PROM is correct.
When you make changes to the bin, your program changes the checksum. This number needs to match the checksum that the ECM generates, otherwise you'll get an SES light.
GM does this to make sure there isn't any corrupted data in the bin.

So it is ok that this number changed, i do not need to change the checksum back to the original number?
