Weird ecm, just had to pick it up.
So who's ever seen a TBI powered caddy engine ecm with it's mini-memcal and funky little "bump cover."
Here are some pictures. The eprom is 28 pins and it looks like the netres is on the memcal. Very out of the ordinary looking equipment but it was need seeing the huge engine, fwd, and tbi .
I'd like to find more info about this ecm but it's remanufactured without any real GM number on it. All I have is 7-8322 and "calibration code" 0596. The bcc is ALCK 6014, if somebody could look that up it would be awesome.
I'm going to hack this little puppy up when I get the chance.
Does anybody know what size injectors were on this engine? If they're bbc sized I'll go back and pick them up. I'll go back tomorrow morning before work and pull the numbers off of them.

That was fast. Thanks guys, oh, so it's a pathetic little 4.5L, lol. Figures.
Ludis should put this up on his site. I couldn't find any information about it . Is it c3 or p4 hardware? I wonder if all the code is on the eprom making it a p4 that's running 2 TBI injectors. Or it might just be a c3 with an abnormal eprom size.

It's the Gurney bubble! (I hope people understand this joke).

Looks like it's a p4 that uses an external knock esc. The crystal inside says 4.1931, wouldn't that mean it's a p4? The connectors are typical TBI small and large but they're both brown instead of black... no blue.
I need a pin-out to accelerate this ecm's disection. This way I can test the aldl.
It also appears to only have 6 unused pins, (3 in large, 3 in small).

Then count the pins on the EPROM. If 24, then it'll have ROM, if 28, then the odds are no ROM. Try reading it as a 256K and see if the bin makes sense.
Two full boards, hmm, there has to be a bunch of something in that ECM. Next up would be to read the EPROM and disassemble it. A little look-see and that will be the definative answer to how much RAM, I/O and such is in there.
{edit: noticed in first post a 28 pin EPROM, most likely no ROM}

Alot of caddys have 2 ecu's one for the drive train and one for the body( thing runs heating dash who knows what). They tie into each other how much I don't know but the engine ecu can tell you if the one for the body is wacky. Think of all the toy's and gismoes you could run with a set up like that. Or I might just be smoking crack.

Oh and the 4.5's came TBI and MPFI, sure its a TBI? Both use almost the same TB, just one not cut out for a injector pod. At one time Iwas thinking about turning my tbi to MPFI using some caddy stuff but I could not find any info on it. Who hot rods a fwd caddy?

RBob, I'll get that bin read when I figure a way to build a header for it. I don't have anything for reading the bins off of memcals, never had the need since I'm a TBI guy and the TPI guys all had their stuff posted on diy-efi.org
I'll try and get around to it tonight but probably not until tomorrow (tired).
I'm not going to get my hopes up but I have a feeling there's something good about this ecm. It IS a caddy part so something needs to be upgraded .
Like I said before, only 6 unused pins so it's definatly packing some extras.
There was also an electric air pump in the engine bay. I might pick it up for like $5 just to play with it. For being an 89 TBI car I'm suprised at how much they packed into this car.

The Cad uses an ISC motor, which actually opens the throttle instead of the IAC valve.
The Cad ECM runs the cruise control, insted of the CC module doing the work.

With our luck its probably just different. From here the insides look like the same tired out old stuff we have but if it doesnt have the onboard rom then it might be worth something.

Just like an ECM but replace Engine with body. Caddy have too many toy on bord to be run off one computer so they have two one for engine and one for the body. So right now you only have half of the system.

The BCM usually runs items such as the climate control, digital dash, MPG display, keeps tabs on and reports malfunctions. Nothing that is required to run the engine.
My interest in this particular ECM is that it may be a near drop in for the '8746/'7747. If so then maybe with some minor code changes to the $61/$42 code and a better ECM is available.

Ack no interest in auto climate control with simulated wood grain? No instant mpg readings or even the electronic compass?Why not add some fluff. oh and hitting warmer and off on a caddy climate control will put in diagnostic it will show you codes and most sensor readings too with out a scanner.

I could care less for the diagnostics display screen... it's probably 160 baud ZZZzzzzzz, what, oh did it update yet?
It's too much work pulling all that stuff out. I just want to see if it can be run with the ultimate TBI code without any hardware changes.
