What IC do I need for an RS '91 TBI
So I’m thinking about trying this DYI PROM thing but to be honest the more I read about it the more confused I am.
So here is my dilemma, I have a ‘91 RS with a 305 TBI auto and I don’t know what IC to use to reprogram my ECM.
Looking at https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/promintro.shtml I see that my setup is:
Year (TBI eng.): 1989-1992
ECM Type: C3
ECM ID: 1228746
EPROM Type: 2732A
BIN Size: 4Kb
Prog ID (Cal.): $61
Baud Rate: 160
MemCal: No
Bare EPROM: Yes
Is this the correct info for my car and if so can I use a 29C256 EEPROM? So far the only IC manufacturer I found for 2732A is NTE Electronics (http://www.nteinc.com) and as you can see that’s an EPROM, I’d prefer to use an EEPROM.
If 29C256 is not a replacement what else can I use?
Thanks for all your help.

Forget those crappy 2732 chips. I hate em with a passion. Have the time they work, half the time they don't erase, sometimes they do but then all of a sudden they don't verify on the second try. BAH, use a 29C256, it's easy. Or if you want to program chips for just your car go with a Prominator. It replaces your chip and burning equipment with one device. It's like an emulator of sorts but with no battery backup required.
So if you want to use flash chips, here's the deal. Go to www.moates.net and follow along;
Under Categories, chip adaptors, add the G2 Memory Adapter: 0.6" Spacing "Allows use of new Flash chips in many GM TBI setups."
Then add a couple AT29C256 chips. He's been a LOT of help to the TBI community with his products and well documented installation instructions... with pictures no less .
Then depending on if you need a burner he offers a USB burner for a great price, BURN1 for $85, that's all you'de need to start burning chips.

Thanks. That's the site I had in mind to get my parts from and my list is very close to what you suggest.
Did you mean Ostrich for the emulator? I couldn't find Prominator. From your comment regarding the battery backup I understand Prominator is different. Ostrich has a battery that lasts for 75 years according to the info on the site.

That's the Prominator. The Pro version lets you tune on the fly. I'd get the Pro version if you're the kind of guy that likes toys and the ah factor. I have a Romulator and I use it all the time because I hate the tedious work of chip burning. It's entirely up to how much tuning you want to do and believe me, once you get started it'll become one of your newest hobbies.
The Ostrich is nice but I consider it the same thing as the Romulator only it's USB instead of serial based. The Ostrich does do larger chip sizes but for OBDI GM stuff they work the same.
The Romulator and Pocket Programmer are at www.xtronics.com
Here's a website that shows the installation of the Prominator http://www.technovelocity.com/chevyh...m/8746ecm.html
