Confused again

Are you surprised? Anyway I went over to ftp://ftp.diy-efi.org/pub/gmecm/bin_lib/1227747%2042/ and looked through the library and it makes no sense to me. The .bin I understand, but, the abbrevations that look like hygroliphics to me. I know the names such as AFDY 42.bin, AMUR 42.bin stand for something, but it's beyond me at this stage. Could somebody please decode this or point me in the right direction as to what they mean. As always.....TIA.

As far as I know the letters/numbers on the bins don't "mean" anything. They are just a means to ID the program stored on the prom chip. Now there is a correlation between the bins and the "mask" you use to view/modify them and the ECM it goes with.

I think (as far as I can remember) I need the $42 ECU to correctly edit the 7747 bin, correct?

From what I see that is correct. I have a different setup so I'm not up to speed so to speak on the common BCC for the 7747.
Here is a link to a site that shows the broadcast codes for a bunch of applications.
http://www.cruzers.com/~ludis/idxref.html
It will show you some of the 4 letter codes that are represented in the listing on your previous post.
You should find one that is the closest match to your setup and start from there. It just makes things easier on you.

i asked that same Q when i burned my first chip in my 7747. tunercat gave me the impression it did not matter much as my engine was modded and needed serious tuning. 350 cid. i thnk i eventually got a base bin for "vette" from a crossfire forum member. then i changed a lot in it anyway. i would make sure you have a auto or manual bin for your car. that seemed to matter more.

Yes, the only code that runs in a 7747 is the 42

You want as close as possible .bin to start with.
Period.
If you're totally lost, and can't figure out square one, then buy one from the dealer. That will give you the latest possible set of updates.
