Somthing has gone awry!
My latest buildup has led me to need more tuning. I have a Pocket Programmer and for some reason, I cannot get a single chip to burn and function. I'm using the AT27C256 chips, doubling up the BIN and burning. It burns, verifies, and when I stick it in the car it goes into failsoft when I try to crank and gives me the faulty PROM SES code.
What am I doing wrong? Using GMECM edit to edit BTW. Was there a version of the PP II software that didn't like 27C256's?

n00biest mistake since I pulled the motor and slapped $1500 worth of go fast parts on it and ran 1.2 seconds and 6mph faster because my fuel pump died!
Carry on...

Or not...
Ok, now I am back to square 1.
I have the correct layout, 16k -> 32k output .bin file. I burned the 32k bin on to the 29C256 chip... hmm

Then program.
Then edit buffer, and look thur it to see if it's all FFs.
You did select the proper prom type, right?.
If for some reason you had it on a prom that required 25v to program, instead of 12.5 then you may have nuked it.
Do you get an opening window that says Pocket Programmer found?.

Like grumpy said, also when you click blank check whats it doing? Another thing to try is hit move device. That copy's whatevers on the chip into the buffer. Then try to edit to the buffer. The PPII was a little confusing for me as well at first.
Also, I'd suggest just setting the device start to 4000. I've never had any luck stacking bins.

Proper PROM Type: AT29C256 Yes
Programmed on a different voltage: Maybe by accident, will try only good Flash PROM when I get home. (the one in the car :yikes: )
Pocket Programmer Found: Yes like clockwork.
I found I am running Version 1.47 on the PP II software. I have a folder labled ver. 1.78 with no .exe file in it. Anyone have one I can use?

Roost, thanks. I have been using the PP II for like... 2 years now. First time I have had a problem with it actually. I will try to set it to 4000 for a start and just use the 16k bin then.

Ok, may have tracked this down.
In PP II software, where should the start of the DEVICE and Start of Buffer settings be?
Also, where should the end point be? I dont know if this is it but it seems they are changed.

buffer start should be 0000, start device is 4000 only if your not stacking, 0000 if you are. Hope that helps some

Whats so strange is that no matter how many times I try to start buffer and device at 0000 it wont run the car. Looks like I'll just have to use the upper portion of the chip from now on. Got a lot of things worked out, many things left.
