Using Larger PROMS

Does anyone know if 27c512 -150’s will work in the place of the 27c128 in a 165?

Since it looks like everything works from the end of the chip forward, can I get away with just burning a 27c256 or 512 as a 27c128 without stacking the bin?

You could ground the unused addr pins on the chip and jsut write the bin to the first section of the memory. Wouldnt have to use offsets or anything. Either that or connect them to the +5 volts and use the last bank of memory on the chip.

27c512's will work just fine for you 165 ecm. All you need to do is set the device start at C000 and load the bin and program, that is if your using the PPII for burning. That puts the bin in the last part of the eprom and it works just fine.

clippjr8… beautiful… THANK YOU

That put the actual data right at the end of the bin without me breaking 10 different things trying to stack or copy 0’s into the first ¾ of the bin…

I’m sure that this ranks as a dumb question, but is there a way to calculate this, well, I’m sure there is, how? Where would I start writing my 16k bin if I was using a 27c256?

On a 256k eprom, if im not mistaken, the start addr. should be 0x7800 for a 16k bin in order to get it at the very end of the eprom

just posted one

There was a writeup just recently on one of the posts that pointed to a "hex how to" .
Magnus or Grumpy did it a bout 1-2 weeks ago.
Do a search, I'll try to find it again and put a link here.

Actually, that writeup is on Mangus' site.
Understanding Hex

A very good writeup indeed! Funny thing, for conversions to decimal, he does the exact thing I do.....Windows calculator!

Thanks for digging that up… looks like it will be helpful when I absorb it (not sure that I’m conscious enough to do it now)

you know, I usually do that but I tried to use it to figure out the maf table scalars and as far as I could tell my results were just wrong

So do I, I need to bookmark more of that sort of stuff. I somehow managed to remember that I read on his site, not here.

Hex can be difficult to absorb. I still get lost in it sometimes with just counting. Ya know 10, 1a. Or 1f, 20....Just out of the norm for our way of thinking!!!

I'm still having issues with some of the calculations I need for making things convert in ECU files...... Oh well, I'll have to find some time to work on it some more when my brain's not so badly fried!!
