need more stable datalogging with 8.52 moatesware
I'd like to get anyone elses suggestions on more stable datalogging with Mr. Moates' 8.52 software. I've got the laptop hooked up to a '87 Z(Iroc) '165 via the Max232 homebuilt cable, works good, for sure, all connections are secure and reliable the chip is powered from a regulated 12v source(down to 5V per schematic). Also, powering the laptop from an inverter from 12V.
Seems that the program will hang when I try and start logging info, sometimes its seconds, sometimes its minutes.
Now, I know I've seen mention of this multiple times, but really haven't seen any resolve. What is everyone else doing to improve their scanning abilities? Using other software on these danged '165's?
Does anyone know for sure the problems? ground loops? intermittent data? Interaction from the inverter and laptop? Ignition interference?
thanks in advance.......

This is an issue with the ECM itself. Even my AutoXRay scanner locks up with the 165.
Generally you can alter the baud rate to get a more stable connection. Mine seems to prefer 8200.

mine is stable as all hell, even with my amateur soldering job...I log up to hour of driving on a regular basis.
BTW I use the 2 transistor cable with Moates 8.52 on my 89 GTA 165 ECM

Thanks for the replies. As to the problem in the ecm, is it something related to an inaccurate clock rate, or something like that? Any info on the root cause of why it hangs, in any better detail?
I'll try messing with the baud rate though, thanks for that tip.
short of that, what does anyone else running a '165 have good luck running with?
