gm efi on 2387cc aircooled vw?

gm efi on 2387cc aircooled vw?
Ive seen a 650 holley on one so i think the v8 efi conversion could be done. something like crossfire with a dual intake and linkage setup sortof like what many alreay do with dual 2bbl webers...
What my question is... how difficult is it going to be to get a chip to run a motor COMPLETELY different than what this efi was intended to do. In theory is should all run and be tunable as long as i have a close fuel map to begin with right? just fuel.. no spark control...
let me know your thoughts... ive pitched it to a few tbi guys.. but not a ton of pioneers over there, most are buying custom chips i think.

They've been doing it for years.
They used to advertise in Hot VW Magazine for the TBI conversion.
Lock up the distributor advance, and let the ecm control the timing.
If you run dual TBI's the 747 has enough over design in it to drive both IACs.

any idea what company sold the conversions?
I'd like to think 2 small block throttle bodies could be used... i have a few laying around , as well as a few ecms and a full harness, interior and exterior. thirdgen gauges morphed into my speedster - LOL nevermind, it would look retarded. Linkage might be really difficult to set up.
Mainly what Im thinking is... if its going to take me all year to tune it, ill drop the $ and get a digital setup for $1800.

A couple 2.5L single barrels might be enough.
Might look at the Weber setups for ideas on linkage.
The EZ to program aftermarket ecms, often have poor driviblility.
If you make up your mind before hand on how insanely difficult a map is, you will be right. Keeping an open mind, and just letting the engine tell you want it wants always works.

i have a few vw magazines... nobody is converting with already available items it seems. Looks like everbody is going with new full custom kits designed by cbperformance etc...
I've been told by a vw guy that no matter how hard you try to adapt american technology to these things, it will never work right... he's pretty old school, so he hasnt got the first idea about efi. Im thinking theory mainly... in theory an engine is an engine and a gm ecm should be able to do the trick on well, anything if you wanted to get the fuel and spark maps perfect... if I start with some maps from a 4cyl gm bin, shouldnt it at least run / idle well enough for me to tune from there?

Building a tune from absolute scratch can take alot of time. But like you said, it's just an engine. Having a WB and emulator would be about necessary, or at least drastically shorten the developement time.

i just found a company that has the wideband with digital readout for a not too shabby price...

electromotive is what i would love to have but its TONS of dough.
also, turns out ive blown the ball joints and boots out on my truck from driving it too hard in 4 wheel drive this winter, my front cover and rear main seal are leaking too.... looks like funds just got cut.

Note that the new Holley unit is the FJO. This FJO unit has been out there for quite some time. The Innovate unit is also decent. For a do-it-yourself unit the DIY-WB unit is good.
The MegaSquirt folks have just released info on their WB unit. Looking at the design I'll bet it will be pricy, but good.
One thing that is interesting, is that other then the DIY-WB and the FJO, no others have a separate analog ground for data logging via a single ended input.
