1227749 From a grand am?

I was doing a search on ecms and it looks like the 749 ecm was also installed in late 80's grand am's . Can anybody confirm this? Why is it that everbody says to look for a sunbird or syclone/tyhoon ecm?

Yes, it was used in the Quad 4 applications for AWHILE. But, they quickly switched over to the 707, so you need to be sure you get the right one. I tried a 707 once, but had a problem, I dunno if it was the ecm or something else. It may even work, but is an unknown as far as I know.

Anyway, yes it was used in other applications, at one of the syclone sites, they list all the donor cars.
It's just snazzier to say syclone rather then 91-92 FWD Quad 4 yada yada's. And the junkyard guys get tired of looking up yada yada's real fast.

The '730 will work fine with the $58 code for your application.

AustinT wants to run a TBI with it, so he'll need the '749. The '730 only has one injector driver.

Why can't you run TBI with the '730? TBI injectors low imp?

Yup!

Also, I think the couple years they put th e2.0 turbo in the Grand Am would also be a 749.

I see.. So you'd need a couple transformers to use low imp injectors..

The output wattage is still the same, jsut gotta increase the amperage at a lower voltage right?

Mosfets actually...

One of Ken's injector driver boards might allow using a 730.

The 730 was used in numerous applications where they used saturated injectors. But, in only one TBI application, and it used just one P+H TBI injector, I say TBI P+H since TBI P+H's are 1.2 ohms resistance.

The 749 on the other hand was used in an 4 cylinder application that used P+H port style injectors, which are 2.4 ohms each for the 749 can be wired to fire 2, 1.2 ohm TBI injectors.

Transformers pass voltages that very, the *ON* pulse would not be transfer. So the injector might click on but then would shut off since there is no *holding* current. Not an EE explanation just trying to illlustrate transformers don't work very well on D/C, for passing low freqs.
